Episode 14 recap: Zhou Qiao Released on Bail

In episode 14, Zhou Qiao received a mysterious phone call one day. The person on the other end said there was something he needed to see in person, and the meeting place was set in a narrow alley nearby. Zhou Qiao didn't think much of it and went into the alley, only to be ambushed from behind. His mouth was covered tightly, and he couldn't make a sound.

Meanwhile, in the office, Chen Jian was busy discussing things with Du Zi Yu and Lei Xu, who were sipping tea and celebrating Lei Xu's name being cleared and his return to the team. Lei Xu apologized for the trouble he had caused, but Chen Jian reassured him and suggested he take a break for a few weeks to rest.

The conversation then turned to Zhou Qiao. Du Zi Yu guided Zhou Qiao to recount the incident in detail. Zhou Qiao explained that after Lei Xu had safely escorted him home, he witnessed his brother Zhou Long getting physical with their mother Qiao Li at the alley entrance. He couldn't stand by and watch, so he intervened, leading to a confrontation between the brothers. Zhou Long then fell and became motionless. Qiao Li, terrified, dragged Zhou Qiao away from the scene.

As for what happened later, Zhou Qiao's mind was in a daze. He only remembered that on the 12th, Qiao Li had given him her usual instructions to take care of himself, unaware that it was the calm before the storm.

At the same time, Lei Xu was frantically trying to listen to the key recording of the Ding Yonggong case, but the recorder had malfunctioned. Du Zi Yu and Zhang Li went to the scene of Zhou Long's incident to search for clues, but soon received the news that Qiao Li's condition had suddenly worsened, and Zhou Qiao rushed to the hospital.

At the hospital, Zhou Qiao learned that a liver transplant was the only hope for saving his mother, but the high cost overwhelmed him, and he broke down in tears.

Zhang Li and Liu Liu reviewed the hospital's surveillance footage and discovered a potential secret between Zhou Qiao and Qiao Li, particularly the emotionally charged words Qiao Li seemed to have said to him, "I've harmed you." Concerned that Zhou Qiao might be involved in his brother's death, the team decided to apply for his release on bail, despite his young age.

Yang Tian was the first to object, feeling that Zhou Qiao's actions couldn't be easily overlooked, especially given his family's complicated background. She had her own personal struggles, as her own child had gone down the wrong path, and her husband had also suffered because of it, so she could relate to the anger and disappointment.

Fortunately, Chen Jian was understanding and helped resolve the team's issues. Lei Xu even called Yang Tian, asking her to visit Zhou Qiao at the hospital as a mother figure to provide him with warmth and support. Yang Tian agreed and went to the hospital, bonding with Zhou Qiao over their shared experiences.

Zhou Qiao revealed that he had originally planned to use unscrupulous means to obtain the recording in Lei Xu's possession, just to raise money for his mother's treatment. This filial piety, despite the controversy, showed his perseverance and deep love for his mother in the face of adversity.

The people around Zhou Qiao were now trying to find the right balance between the law and human compassion as they sought to support him.
