Episode 4 recap: The episode opens with Jiang Xiao Jie returning home

Her mom immediately makes her stand while her dad tells her to go take a shower and change her clothes  Her mom, however, starts scolding her, asking why she didn't answer her phone Jiang Xiao Jie explains she lost her phone  Her mom continues to berate her, even telling her to stop taking art classes

Jiang Xiao Jie tries to explain that she's wet, but her mom just asks if she fell in a puddle, dismissing her concerns.  It's clear that her mom is only interested in her studying and doesn't care about her well-being.

Meanwhile, Lei Xu is outside Linghua High School. He notices students being escorted out of the school and others waiting outside.

Du Zi Yu is at the prison interviewing a criminal who taught minors how to steal. The criminal claims he's helping these kids who are neglected or have run away from abusive homes. Du Zi Yu argues that he's actually ruining their lives.

Lei Xu asks Yang Tian about Du Zi Yu's interrogation. Yang Tian tells him they're dealing with unfortunate kids who have no one to care for them. She mentions Xingxing, the grandson of the security guard, Old Zhao, who is also a neglected child.

Lei Xu asks about Xingxing's parents. Yang Tian reveals that they divorced and Xingxing was awarded to his father, who then remarried and left the boy with Old Zhao. Xingxing's mother used to call him but stopped after she had another daughter.

Lei Xu worries about Xingxing's future if Old Zhao passes away. Yang Tian agrees and explains that they've encouraged Old Zhao to sue his son, but he refuses.  She mentions that they've been helping Old Zhao, including finding a kindergarten for Xingxing.

Yang Tian then asks Lei Xu about the Linghua High School case. She says her husband is friends with the school's principal and will call him to inquire.

The episode ends with Jiang Xiao Jie pouring her vegetable juice down the sink. Her dad tells her that her mom makes her drink it because she cares about her.

Jiang Xiao Jie looked at the floor-cleaning robot and asked her father, Jiang Linhai, what the difference was between him and the robot. Jiang Linhai said, "How could there be no difference? The robot can't take care of you."

He then brought Jiang Xiao Jie her vitamins and vegetable juice. Jiang Xiao Jie, angry, felt that her mother didn't consider either her or Jiang Linhai as family. She said, "Jiang Linhai can tolerate it, but I can't," and stormed out.

After Yang Tian finished her call, Lei Xu returned to Linghua High School. This time, the school's attitude was completely different. Director Guan warmly greeted him and shared information about the school.

Lei Xu, as the vice principal for legal education, was there to give a safety lecture to the students. However, the students were restless and chatted amongst themselves, ignoring Lei Xu. Lei Xu glanced at Zhang Li, who was in the control room, and she waved at him.

Lei Xu asked Director Guan for help. He and Zhang Li performed a self-defense skit on stage, while Director Guan provided commentary. The performance was effective, and the students watched intently. Lei Xu told them that if they were attacked, the fastest way to escape was to run, to run with all their might.

Jiang Xiao Jie stood up and asked Lei Xu what to do if they couldn't shout or run away. Lei Xu told them, "If you can't run, then live. Live your best life. Be the best version of yourself."

After finishing the lecture, Lei Xu and Zhang Li were about to leave when Lei Xu received a call from Jiang Xiao Jie.

Lei Xu met with Jiang Xiao Jie alone. She told him she had been raped. Lei Xu told her to prepare herself mentally, that he would accompany her to file a police report and ensure the perpetrator was punished. Jiang Xiao Jie agreed, saying she would go get some things and ask for time off. Lei Xu told her he would wait for her in the car downstairs.

However, Jiang Xiao Jie never appeared. When Lei Xu called her, her phone was off. They realized that Jiang Xiao Jie had disappeared, and Lei Xu and Zhang Li were questioned by their colleagues.
