Episode 8 recap: Lei Xu attends Prosecutor Ding's memorial service, bringing a white chrysanthemum

Zhang Yun Yun, Zhou Qiao, and Jiang Xiao Jie are all receiving therapy and slowly improving. Therapist Yu tells Yang Tian that Jiang Xiao Jie is the most severely affected and needs immediate attention. Yang Tian reassures her that they are monitoring the three children, but Yu emphasizes that parental cooperation is crucial for a successful recovery.
Yang Tian mentions that Jiang Xiao Jie and Zhang Yun Yun's parents are cooperative, but Zhou Qiao's father is not. Yu expresses concern about Zhou Qiao's home environment, noting it seems oppressive. She asks Zhou Qiao about her injuries, but the girl claims they are from falls. Yu suspects Zhou Qiao may be experiencing domestic abuse.
Lei Xu tells Yang Tian he got her a charging station. Yang Tian reveals that her electric scooter was stolen while she was at Yu's office. Lei Xu offers to drive her home. On the way, Yang Tian comments on how Lei Xu's car looks unassuming from the outside but is actually quite nice. She mentions how people in American movies love driving pickup trucks. Lei Xu says he likes them too. Yang Tian then asks if he knows Ding Yonggang. Lei Xu freezes, taken aback. He says he doesn't know him well, only having met him once. Yang Tian explains she doesn't know him well either but remembers seeing him driving a pickup truck when he was investigating a case in the area.
Lei Xu asked Yang Tian what case Ding Yonggang was investigating there. Yang Tian told him it was about a worker's accidental death at a real estate development project by Shijie Group. They ended up paying the family two million yuan in compensation. Lei Xu asked when it happened, and Yang Tian replied it was in 2009.
Lei Xu thought two million yuan was a lot of money back then. Yang Tian explained that it was precisely because of this incident that Shijie Group earned a reputation as a "conscientious company."
Fast forward to July 2015, Ding Yonggang was found dead on the beach. Lei Xu attended his memorial service, and Ding's wife asked him if he believed the anonymous letter.
They claimed Ding Yonggang had taken bribes, and a lot of unexplained money was found in his office. Ding's wife told Lei Xu that she didn't believe he committed suicide, nor did she believe he drowned, as he couldn't swim. She also mentioned that he had promised to go out with his son the day before he died, making her doubt the suicide theory.
Afterward, Ding's wife gave Lei Xu his car keys. She said they needed money for various expenses and asked him to sell the car. Lei Xu drove the car and discovered a recording of several voices on the radio. The conversation seemed to involve Ding Yonggang asking who they were, followed by them demanding he get out of the car and cooperate if he didn't want to die.
Lei Xu realized Ding Yonggang's death wasn't an accident and decided to keep the car. He remembered Yang Tian mentioning Shijie Group and went to investigate their properties, taking some photos.
Sun Yun Di tried to persuade her younger brother, Sun Yun Xiao, to stop causing trouble and be content with their current situation. Sun Yun Xiao, however, felt they couldn't live under someone else's roof forever and wanted to take control of their lives.
Lei Xu discovered a clue in the sexual assault case. Zhang Yun Yun told Jiang Xiao Jie that she was transferring schools, which made Jiang Xiao Jie unhappy. Lei Xu and Du Zi Yu went to Jiang Xiao Jie's house again, hoping to find some useful information.
