Episode 11 recap: Jin Zhan Decides to Join the Play
In this episode, Jin Zhan is still trying to convince his brother to confess his feelings to Hong Jie. He even brought a bouquet of wheat flowers, but before he could explain, Yu Shu came out of the room. Jin Zhan quickly pulled Yu Shu aside, and they left to get ice cream together.Hong Jie, however, seemed to like the flowers Jin Zhao gave her and asked him to meet her at a restaurant. Jin Zhan later found out that Yu Shu and Hong Jie didn't have romantic feelings for each other, which put his mind at ease.
The school was holding a drama festival, and He Shang wanted Jin Zhan to contribute to their class performance. Jin Zhan declined.
At lunch, He Shang tried to persuade Yu Shu to join them. Many students were feeling down because of the upcoming monthly exam. Yu Shu was worried about Jin Zhan, who was still struggling to cope with his emotions. She skipped lunch and went to the office to check on Jin Zhan's exam results with Chen Xiao Hong. The teacher mentioned that the school was taking the drama performance very seriously. Yu Shu was concerned about Jin Zhan's performance on the exam. Although he had improved, he was still at the bottom of the class.
Yu Shu bought Jin Zhan bread to cheer him up, but he refused at first. She knew he was upset about his exam score and tried to encourage him. Jin Zhan was surprised to find out that he had actually improved by 70 places. His mood instantly shifted from sadness to joy, and he decided to participate in the class play.
Yu Shu soon announced the drama performance to the class, but most students were reluctant to participate because they didn't have any acting experience. Yu Shu decided to assign roles directly. Only Jin Zhan, He Shang, and Du Sha volunteered to participate. However, they still needed more people. Fu Min eventually joined, and they started practicing their lines. Jin Zhan was enthusiastic but struggled to deliver his lines effectively.
The class disagreed on which play to choose. Yu Shu ultimately selected "Sleeping Beauty" because it had simple lines and encouraged other students to participate. Du Sha was interested in the fight scenes, so she became the director. Fu Min played the princess, and Jin Zhan and He Shang competed for the role of the prince. In the end, Jin Zhan won.
Jin Zhan practiced his lines every day, hoping for a flawless performance on the big day. Their team was growing stronger, with more classmates joining the rehearsals. Everyone was enthusiastic and committed to their roles. He Shang had a good grasp of his lines, but Fu Min, playing the princess, was acting too over-the-top and aggressive, which frustrated Du Sha. Du Sha was very serious, and Fu Min, in a fit of anger, stormed off.
Fu Min felt very wronged, and Yu Shu quickly chased after her to comfort her. Fu Min realized she shouldn't have left so abruptly and admitted that maybe she wasn't suited for the princess role, especially since she was acting opposite Jin Zhan, making it difficult for her to focus. Yu Shu suggested that Fu Min could play the role of a fairy, which might be a better fit for her personality.
Meanwhile, Jin Zhan was rehearsing a scene with Du Sha. He was about to kiss her, but Du Sha couldn't stand the cheesiness and stopped the scene. Fu Min returned and apologized, acknowledging that she wasn't right for the princess role. Yu Shu agreed and thought Du Sha would be perfect for the princess. Du Sha, reluctantly, agreed.
Back at the rehearsal, Jin Zhan continued practicing. His brother, Jin Zhao, watched him with a mixture of amusement and disbelief, unable to accept his brother's dramatic acting. Jin Zhan was already preparing his acceptance speech, which made Jin Zhao roll his eyes.
The play was about to start, and Yu Shu's younger sister wanted to join them for the final rehearsal. Yu Shu promised to take her next time, which disappointed her sister.
As they arrived at the rehearsal space, Xiao Mei showed up. It turned out that Class 2 and Class 5 were both performing the same play, creating a rivalry. A boy from Class 5 mocked Du Sha, saying she wasn't right for the princess role. Jin Zhan stepped in to defend her.
Soon, the performance began. Each class gave their best, hoping to win the award.
