Episode 16 recap: Wishing on My Best Friend's Eyelashes
In episode 16, during a routine gym class, the teacher gathered the students to start training, but Du Sha was temporarily called to the office and couldn't rejoin the group in time before the training began. Meanwhile, Jin Zhan was enthusiastically cheering on Yu Shu, aware of her inner anxiety, but continuously encouraging her.
As the fitness test approached, Gu Fei also joined in the cheering, but Yu Shu still lagged behind. When Du Sha finally arrived, her mind didn't seem fully focused on the training. During the girls' running event, Du Sha fell to the back of the pack, distracted, and a subtle tension filled the air.
Afterward, Xiao Mei asked about Du Sha's state, and Du Sha revealed she was considering transferring schools due to her mother's concerns about her academics. Du Sha said that if she could place in the top five on the upcoming test, she might avoid the transfer. Jin Zhan overheard this and, thinking Du Sha was ill, drank the beverage prepared for her, leading to him being scolded.
Jin Zhan learned from Xiao Mei about a "legend" - that wishing on a friend's eyelashes can make the wish come true. He persistently pursued Yu Shu's eyelashes, even disrupting class, until the teacher caught him. Undeterred, Jin Zhan continued his quest, while Du Sha secretly made a wish on Xiao Mei's lashes for a good test score.
Jin Zhan remained fixated on Yu Shu's eyelashes, and Gu Fei's involvement made the "eyelash battle" more complicated. Gu Fei eventually offered his own lashes, which Yu Shu accepted reluctantly, on the condition that Jin Zhan stop pestering her.
After gym class, Jin Zhan helped Gu Fei with a bicycle breakdown, which Du Sha witnessed, fearing it would upset the balance of their friendship. However, Xiao Mei advised her not to intervene.
In class, Jin Zhan unexpectedly answered a question correctly, having secretly made a wish that came true. Yu Shu mistakenly believed Jin Zhan's success was due to Gu Fei's eyelashes, while Du Sha worried about her upcoming midterm exam. Amid Yu Shu's hesitation, Jin Zhan's sincere plea led her to agree to help him.
The truth was revealed - Jin Zhan's good performance was thanks to Gu Fei's nighttime tutoring, not the eyelash wish.
Elsewhere, Yu Shu learned from Jin Zhao that Gu Fei was about to become an exchange student, prompting Yu Shu to promise to monitor Gu Fei. Gu Fei was displeased to hear that Jin Zhan had obtained the eyelashes and made a wish.
At Jin Zhan's lively family dinner, Yu Shu's arrival delighted him, and he prepared to cook for her, but ended up ordering takeout instead. Gu Fei's unexpected visit created a tense atmosphere, with his territorial behavior intertwining with Du Sha's "assistance," ultimately leading Yu Shu to decide to stay the night at Jin Zhan's.
In the quiet of the night, a power outage prompted Jin Zhan to check on Yu Shu. In the darkness, her fear was soothed by Jin Zhan's gentle nightlight, and their misunderstanding dissipated. Jin Zhan confessed that he knew about Yu Shu's night blindness and explained his true reason for seeking the eyelashes - his pure friendship and concern.
The next day, the fitness test arrived, and Yu Shu's remarkable progress surpassed even Gu Fei, proving her abilities and deepening the bonds with her friends.
