Episode 3 recap: Is Yushu Playing Both Sides?
In the third episode, Jin Zhan accidentally fell asleep the night before an assignment was due, and woke up with the work unfinished. In a panic, he planned to copy Yushu's paper, but his backup plan failed when the teacher collected the assignments on time. Jin Zhan was worried that if he didn't score in the top 200, his dream of joining the club he wanted to join would be shattered.
Jin Zhan apologized to Yushu, even passing him a note in class, but it fell to the ground, drawing the teacher's attention and resulting in Jin Zhan being punished. During the punishment, Jin Zhan spotted a yellow hat in Yushu's backpack, causing Yushu to hurriedly leave. It turned out Yushu had to work part-time after school to support his family. To make amends, Jin Zhan went to the dessert shop where Yushu worked, and Yushu's father mistook him for a kind classmate and gave him desserts.
Jin Zhan sincerely apologized and promised not to cheat again. When the class was competing against another class in a sports event, Jin Zhan volunteered as the sports representative, and Yushu and Du Sha both supported him. On the way home, Yushu was provoked by students from the other class, and Jin Zhan wanted to defend him but ended up getting hurt instead.
During Yushu's recovery, he actively shared his problem-solving methods with Jin Zhan. One day, Jin Zhan accidentally saw Yushu and Du Sha discussing the upcoming exam, and felt conflicted. Jin Zhan's brother encouraged him to focus on his studies and try to join the boxing club. When Jin Zhan sought help from Du Sha, he was rejected, but Yushu quietly guided him.
One day at lunch, Jin Zhan mistakenly thought Yushu was getting too close to a girl named Xiao Mei, and intervened impulsively, though he later realized his behavior was too rash.
