Episode 4 recap: Jin Zhan and Yu Shu Secretly Compete with Each Other

In Episode 4, Jin Zhan accidentally runs into Du Sha crying during a break at school. He secretly thinks to himself that he should be the one to console the goddess's tears. After class, he approaches Du Sha under the pretense of sharing a song, but his real intention is to get closer to her. However, Jin Zhan's singing fails to win over Du Sha, and he's instead advised to return to his seat and focus on his studies. This, combined with the close conversation between Yu Shu and Du Sha, makes Jin Zhan jealous, convinced that the two have a deep relationship.

After school, Jin Zhan tails Yu Shu and musters the courage to warn him not to hurt the feelings of both people. Yu Shu clarifies that he and Du Sha are just friends, and mentions the "old place" only because they share a common interest in a stray dog - it turns out Du Sha had once lost her own pet, and this stray dog reminded her of it. Seizing the opportunity, Jin Zhan proposes a deal: if Yu Shu can help him finish in the top 200 on the exams, Jin Zhan will help Yu Shu take care of the dog.

Back home, Jin Zhan becomes immersed in gaming and neglects his studies, and Yu Shu's supervision proves ineffective. When the monthly exams arrive, Jin Zhan is surprised to find the questions not too difficult, boosting his confidence. However, he still struggles with a few questions. In his desperation, he ends up peeking at his seatmate's answers and even daring to snatch Yu Shu's test paper, luckily without the teacher noticing.

After the exams, Jin Zhan is filled with self-confidence, but on his way home on his bike, he finds a warning note telling him to stay away from Yu Shu. Yu Shu's rejection of Jin Zhan's dinner invitation, coupled with his bike tires being deflated, sends Jin Zhan into a deep emotional low.

The next day, a cheating scandal sweeps through the class, and Jin Zhan and others are punished with cleaning duties. While everyone suspects the informant, Du Sha is unjustly implicated. Jin Zhan steps up to quell the rumors, and is surprised to find that he has ranked 200th in the grade, while Heshang's unexpected high score also sparks discussions.

Du Sha clarifies that she did not snitch, and Jin Zhan is heartbroken by her isolation, so he actively pulls her into group activities. Although Yu Shu is academically excellent, he also yearns for true friendships. When Jin Zhan expresses a desire to be friends, Yu Shu politely declines, citing that his scores are still not high enough to join the clubs.

Facing difficulty with his assignments, Jin Zhan still tries to rely on Yu Shu, even going so far as to use super glue to trap their drink bottles, hoping to forcibly obtain the answers. This ends up trapping both their hands in an awkward situation.

This experience makes Jin Zhan realize that relying on others is not a long-term solution, and that only by self-effort can he earn respect and opportunities. From then on, Jin Zhan begins to change, reducing his gaming time and focusing on his studies, while also making efforts to improve his relationships with Yu Shu and Du Sha, proving through his actions that he is worthy of trust.

He understands that whether it's pursuing the goddess or joining a club, he needs to put in the hard work and let his grades and sincerity speak for themselves. On the path of growth, Jin Zhan learns responsibility and perseverance, and gains true friendships and self-development.
