Episode 20 recap: Lin Qiang Reluctantly Takes Over as Branch Manager

In episode 20, Qian Bo is extremely envious of Chen Xing Yuan's position and is desperately trying to figure out a way to bring him down. He hatches a plan, spending money to have someone visit Qian Cai in prison, hoping to get him to spill the beans about Chen Xing Yuan's involvement in the Wenxiu Group's fraud scheme.

But Qian Cai is a tough nut to crack - he refuses to cooperate, and instead sends a message back to Qian Bo telling him not to even think about it, or he'll end up jumping into the fire. Quan Bo is furious when he hears this.

Meanwhile, Hao Wei gathers all the department heads to go find Lin Qiang and hand off the work to him. When they arrive, they find Lin Qiang still dreaming in his bed. After some persuasion, they're able to wake him up. Hao Wei stays behind and has a heart-to-heart with Lin Qiang, revealing that he had actually submitted a resignation letter, just wanting to properly say goodbye.

The two shake hands, officially parting ways. Hao Wei is so determined to quit that he even goes to the hospital to get a fake medical certificate to show Qian Bo. Though Qian Bo tries to dissuade him, Hao Wei's mind is made up and he leaves for good.

With Chen Xing Yuan gone, over a dozen others say they want to leave too. Qian Bo sees an opportunity and volunteers himself, saying he can do better. But Xing Li doesn't want to go against Qiu Zhi Zhang's wishes, and shuts down Qian Bo's attempt.

Qiu Zhi Zhang keeps Zhu Feng Shan behind, while Chen Xing Yuan and Qin Zheng spend their time relaxing together. Qin Zheng suspects that Qiu Zhi Zhang may end up appointing Lin Qiang to take over for Chen Xing Yuan - and sure enough, Xia Xin personally goes to the Longyuan branch to announce Lin Qiang's new appointment, tasking him with fully taking over Chen Xing Yuan's responsibilities.

Lin Qiang is shocked when he hears the news, his heart racing with worry that he won't be able to handle it, and fear of being used as a pawn by Xing Li.

Xia Xin knows how to reassure people, and after her talk, Lin Qiang starts to muster up some courage. He immediately goes to seek advice from Chen Xing Yuan.

Chen Xing Yuan explains the full backstory - how Qiu Zhi Zhang selected Lin Qiang in order to have him investigate the depth of Xing Li's involvement with the Wenxiu Group. Lin Qiang doesn't really want to get tangled up in all this messy business. Chen Xing Yuan reflects back on when he first joined Liangzhong Bank, full of ambition to turn the bank into a national leader, and now looks at the state of the bank with a heavy heart.

Qin Zheng analyzes the situation for Lin Qiang, explaining that Qiu Zhi Zhang wanted him to take over in order to stabilize things and have time to deal with the business messes. Lin Qiang also realizes that Xing Li is trying to use other accounts to cover up the Wenxiu Group's fraud, with the intention of then kicking Lin Qiang out.

Unwilling to be a pushover, Lin Qiang sets his sights on the deputy general manager position at headquarters, and asks Chen Xing Yuan and Qin Zheng to help him.

Xia Xin works quickly, and within just a few days gets all of Lin Qiang's paperwork processed, leaving Xing Li no choice but to sign off on it. Lin Qiang, accompanied by Zheng Shuai and Yuan Guan Kui, officially takes over the Longyuan Central Sub-branch. As soon as he enters the office, he finds Hao Wei has set up a telescope, seemingly monitoring them. Hearing that Hao Wei has been living and working in the office, Lin Qiang can't help but feel sympathy.

As soon as Lin Qiang arrives at the sub-branch, Qian Bo brings a group of managers to welcome him, claiming to be acting on Xing Li's behalf and asking everyone to cooperate with him. But Lin Qiang doesn't mess around - he immediately dives into investigating the Wenxiu Group fraud case. This has certainly stirred things up at the Longyuan sub-branch!
