Episode 13 recap: Cong Jun Sheng Changes Zhang Hongyang

In Episode 13, Zhang Hongyang, in a moment of curiosity, sneaks into his neighbor's chicken coop to count how many chickens are inside. The neighbor, upon discovering him, is furious and ready to explode. Thankfully, Cong Jun Sheng arrives just in time and calmly talks him down, leading Zhang Hongyang back home. Lu Guang Bin watches this unfold and thinks to himself that Cong Jun Sheng is being too soft-hearted. He even wonders if Cong Jun Sheng has some ulterior motive, perhaps trying to earn a title by helping others.

Meanwhile, Cong Jun Sheng has a stroke of bad luck; he misses the last bus and has to walk back to school in the dark, which is quite a struggle. On the other hand, classmate Pan Shiyu is making remarkable progress, scoring a perfect 100 on her physics exam, much to the envy of her peers. Cong Jun Sheng gets an idea to merge the two classes for a parent-teacher meeting, hoping to have Pan Shiyu share her study tips to inspire everyone to improve together.

Coincidentally, it has been raining non-stop for days, causing landslides in the mountains. Director Li from the Education Bureau comes to the village for an inspection and happens to catch Lu Guang Bin directing the evacuation of villagers, creating quite a scene.

Once Director Li arrives, he gets into a discussion with Secretary Wang. After assessing the situation in Gouxi Village, he proposes a new idea: professionals should handle professional tasks, and the teacher evaluation system needs to be reformed, especially in rural areas, where salary increases would be the most effective incentive. Secretary Wang wholeheartedly agrees, nodding vigorously.

The next day, Cong Jun Sheng goes to visit Zhang Hongyang and is taken aback by the mess in his house. Without hesitation, he rolls up his sleeves and starts teaching Zhang Hongyang how to clean up and do laundry. After a busy session, Zhang Hongyang is incredibly grateful and prepares a meal to treat Cong Jun Sheng.

After finishing the meal, Zhang Hongyang, now wearing freshly washed clothes, joyfully runs around the yard like he just got a new toy. Meanwhile, Lu Guang Bin is busy washing his motorcycle at the village entrance, preparing to give Cong Jun Sheng a ride back to school. After witnessing these events, he completely reassesses his opinion of Cong Jun Sheng, finding him quite dependable.

Elsewhere, Liu Chengxin and Lu Junfei report to Director Li, who emphasizes the importance of ensuring that school construction keeps pace with relocations in impoverished areas. He insists that kindergartens, elementary schools, and middle schools must all be established, and funding should not be an issue. He also states that school principals should be selected from grassroots levels, specifically individuals who truly understand the local circumstances.

At the parent-teacher meeting, Pan Shiyu became the star of the show. She confidently shared her secrets for scoring high in essays and math, emphasizing the importance of reading more and accumulating knowledge, along with the rigorous guidance from Teacher An, which had greatly benefited her. She tackled difficult problems with the same determination as "Yugong moving the mountains."

Cong Jun Sheng even gave Zhang Hongyang a haircut, instantly boosting the young man's spirits. Teacher Li came for a home visit as scheduled, expecting an easy job, but ended up playing the role of Zhang Hongyang's temporary caretaker, helping with fetching water and bathing.

To make matters even better, the school sent Teacher Li Qin to assist, giving Cong Jun Sheng an unexpected helping hand. Li Qin was thrilled to be working alongside someone she admired; it felt wonderful!

During their time at Zhang Hongyang's house, Cong Jun Sheng not only taught him essential life skills but also transformed the home. Dressed in new clothes, Zhang Hongyang strolled through the village, attracting compliments from the locals. They began calling him Hongyang instead of using those unflattering nicknames, creating a much warmer atmosphere in the village.

Before long, the relocation housing in the impoverished area was nearly completed, with the best locations reserved for the school. Teacher An Yan took the students to visit the best school in the city, where the facilities amazed them—complete with laboratories, a gymnasium, and a large library.

Pan Shiyu especially loved it there, and An Yan noticed her enthusiasm, promising to help arrange for her mother to move there in the future.

On the eve of the high school entrance exams, Director Li announced a significant update at the meeting: during the exams, there would be complete mobile phone coverage, and invigilation and grading would be handled solely by high school teachers to ensure fairness. This news caused quite a stir, as some worried that the last-minute changes might lead to issues.

However, Director Li personally mingled with the parents to gauge their concerns, while An Yan stepped up to explain that high school teachers would provide more consistent and fair grading, ensuring that the students’ efforts would not go to waste. Upon hearing this, the parents nodded in agreement, looking at An Yan with newfound respect, and even Director Li took notice of this outstanding teacher.
