Episode 2 recap: # Lu Guangbin's Affair and An Yan's Decision to Divorce
In Episode 2, Fu Qingshui is successfully elected as the chef, which leaves Wang Jinhua feeling unsettled. She suspects that An Yan is intentionally undermining her and is convinced that there’s a hidden secret between An Yan and Fu Qingshui. Principal Fu observes this tension and bluntly points out to Wang Jinhua that An Yan even recommended her for managing the dormitory.
Wang Jinhua, embarrassed, quickly leaves the scene.
Meanwhile, Cong Jun Sheng believes he has a good grasp of the students and is ready to start his lecture. He asks for An Yan's opinion, but she neither agrees nor disagrees; instead, she inquires whether they should conduct experiments in physics class. Cong Jun Sheng eagerly responds that practice is the only criterion for testing truth. However, An Yan knows he hasn’t understood her suggestion that he should prepare his lessons first.
At noon, Fang Hui secretly takes an extra portion of food, intending to save it for dinner, but she gets caught by the chef and runs away. An Yan offers to handle the situation. Cong Jun Sheng thinks Fang Hui might just want to bring food home for her family, showing her filial piety. Yet, An Yan explains that to truly understand students, one must consider their family backgrounds.
An Yan then takes Cong Jun Sheng to Fang Hui's home, revealing that she took the food for her younger brother. An Yan informs Cong Jun Sheng that Fang Hui has been looking after her brother since their parents passed away, emphasizing that children in this area are different from those in the city and require teachers to understand their backgrounds better. Realizing his previous eagerness to start classes was shortsighted, Cong Jun Sheng gains a new perspective.
Feeling guilty, Fang Hui offers to help in the kitchen. An Yan reassures her that the school now provides nutritious meals, so she no longer needs to trade pickled vegetables for meat. She encourages Fang Hui to think about how she can help others.
During a teacher's gathering, there is hope that Cong Jun Sheng will prepare more lessons to bring urban knowledge and education to the students, as the teaching resources here are limited and in need of fresh ideas.
Interestingly, An Yan previously organized a "pickled vegetables for meat" initiative to improve students' meals, a practice that has continued for several years. The teachers are aware of An Yan's efforts and fully support her. Cong Jun Sheng holds An Yan in high regard.
However, An Yan's husband has been pressuring her to return to the city and even sought help from a city principal to facilitate her transfer. Unexpectedly, An Yan took it upon herself to become vice principal without consulting him. She insists she cannot leave this position, and Principal Wan is taken aback by this turn of events, escalating misunderstandings between the couple.
An Yan reflects on the vows she and her husband made to support education together, realizing they are drifting apart. Although she once considered leaving, she now feels a deep attachment, especially seeing how much her daughter relies on her.
Coincidentally, An Yan and Cong Jun Sheng run into each other at the library and share a joyful conversation. Meanwhile, An Yan discovers her husband's infidelity, which fuels her anger. She is furious that he not only pressures her to return to the city but also uses that as an excuse to betray their family while pretending to be virtuous.
An Yan firmly declares that her children are her bottom line; anyone who threatens them will not be forgiven. She also learns that Lu Guangbin has discarded her students’ pickled vegetables, further solidifying her decision to divorce. With tears in her eyes, she tells her husband that their relationship has come to an end.
