Episode 28 recap: An Yan's Abduction
In Episode 28, Cong Jun Sheng buys a new car to make it easier to take Nuan Nuan and Yang Yang to school. It's his first day joining a training institution, and Principal Liang gifts him a cup to commemorate the occasion. Cong Jun Sheng revises the institution's learning plan, suggesting free club classes at the school to help discover the children's interests. Principal Tian approves this plan, stipulating that classes can be held but not promoted.
Cong Jun Sheng picks up Nuan Nuan and then goes to collect Yang Yang from school. Fu Pei Yu reads a composition by Pan Shiyu and is moved to tears. She never imagined that someone so young could have experienced so much while remaining so strong. Director Li returns home to find his wife in tears. He reads the essay, noting its exceptional quality and maturity, and guesses that the writer is An Yan, a graduate of Heping High School. Fu Pei Yu expresses a desire to meet her for inspiration.
After school, Fu Pei Yu approaches Pan Shiyu, hoping to visit her at home. She expresses her wish to be the person who carries on the message in the essay. Pan Shiyu is now open about her situation, no longer hiding her family circumstances. She shares that she and her mother are doing well, receiving social assistance and working during breaks. If they ever need help, they will reach out to Teacher Pan.
The new swimming pool at the Fourteenth Middle School has been completed, using water from the nearby river to conserve resources. Fu Pei Yu meets with An Yan, and they discuss their experiences. Fu Pei Yu feels guilty for not connecting with the children on a deeper level. An Yan reveals that Pan Shiyu had previously rejected Fu Pei Yu's efforts. After multiple rejections, An Yan gradually built a relationship with Pan Shiyu through guidance and protection, leading to Pan Shiyu's eventual acceptance.
After renovations, Kun Ge's nightclub reopens but faces frequent inspections, leaving him resentful toward the whistleblower, An Yan. At home, An Yan watches Cong Jun Sheng playing an alphabet game with the children, and the family shares joyful moments. Meanwhile, Pei Qiu Yun visits Wen Jing on a rainy day and learns that her mother-in-law has fallen ill due to stress from Zhang Xiaowei's demands for money.
Pei Qiu Yun cooks for Wen Jing's family and stays to keep her company afterward. Wen Jing embraces her teacher and shares her painful experiences of her father frequently abusing her mother. She understands her mother's departure was to earn money and vows to study hard and repay her family when she grows up.
Director Shi brings a group of inspectors to visit Gouxi Village, hoping to attract their investment in developing guesthouses. Pan Lingling has learned some photo editing techniques at home and transforms Fang Xiang's photo into something unflattering. At that moment, she receives a New Year’s greeting call from Fang Xiang, who reminds her that the weather outside is clear and sunny.
During the New Year celebrations at school, students prepare dances from their hometowns, and An Yan distributes red envelopes to the children present. Although these children are without their parents, thanks to An Yan's arrangements, they still have a joyful celebration. The swimming pool is completed, and the students have stopped swimming in the river, becoming enamored with the pool instead. On this day, they invite Pei Qiu Yun to teach them swimming techniques, allowing the students to make progress in this area.
In Tongjiang City, a dragon boat race takes place, and An Yan, along with Cong Jun Sheng, takes Nuan Nuan and Yang Yang to watch the competition. Over the course of the year, their respective careers have also flourished. An Yan visits Wen Jing’s home and runs into Kun Ge, who has come to demand payment, wreaking havoc in the house. An Yan threatens to call the police but is warned by Kun Ge's subordinates. Seeing that his intimidation has worked, Kun Ge and his crew leave.
An Yan suggests that her mother-in-law move in with her, but her mother-in-law believes this is not a long-term solution and insists they will leave as soon as they can find money. That night, An Yan is followed home by Kun Ge's men. Just as she is about to call the police, she is knocked unconscious. Cong Jun Sheng only receives a text from An Yan with a single "C," which he misinterprets. When he tries to call back, the phone is off, and he assumes it just needs charging, not thinking much of it.
Unable to reach An Yan, Cong Jun Sheng contacts Principal Wen, who informs him that An Yan has already left school and hasn’t returned home. He then reaches out to people in the area but finds no trace of her. Finally, Cong Jun Sheng decides to report her disappearance to the police and joins Officer Xiao in the search.
From the surveillance footage, they discover that An Yan entered a blind spot. Cong Jun Sheng suddenly realizes that "C" stands for "light speed," prompting the police to think of the Light Speed Nightclub. Everyone rushes to the venue.
