Episode 31 recap: An Yan Discovers Student's Struggles with Depression

In Episode 31, Pan Shiyu successfully gained admission to a combined bachelor's and master's program, along with several scholarships. Grateful, she went to say goodbye to Teacher An Yan, expressing that without her support, she wouldn't be where she is today. Even more exciting for her was that the school had arranged a staff dormitory, allowing her to bring her mother to live with her. Although her mother had recently been injured in a fall and was having difficulty moving, Pan Shiyu was determined to keep her mother by her side and not let her feel lonely.

Teacher An Yan always thinks of her students, especially Fang Xiang. Every time she enters the computer lab, she feels his presence, imagining him diligently studying. Meanwhile, Zhang Tianyang, through his hard work, has been accepted into a sports school. Overjoyed, he shouted to the sky, thanking Teacher Fang for her guidance.

Zhou Bizhu has also been accepted into the vocational program at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, aspiring to continue her studies and eventually attend university. Pan Shiyu quietly pushed her mother to the bus station, not revealing her mother's condition to Teacher An Yan to avoid causing her worry. On the way, they unexpectedly ran into Teacher Fu, who decided to accompany Pan Shiyu back to Shanghai for additional support.

Teacher Cong Jun Sheng entered the classroom, but instead of his usual students, he was greeted by a lively group of kindergarten children, which surprised and moved him. Meanwhile, Lu Guang Bin was helping newly relocated villagers claim their new homes, with each person finding their house marked by their zodiac sign, creating a warm and orderly scene.

The school was developing rapidly; Principal Liang planned to expand the campus and invited Cong Jun Sheng to join the effort. However, Teacher Cong believed it was essential to proceed cautiously to avoid blind expansion, particularly in science education, which requires meticulous planning and guidance. Thus, he politely declined the invitation.

In class, An Yan conducted a small science experiment, encouraging student participation. Tian Xingwen wanted to join but lacked confidence. Noticing his hesitation, An Yan encouraged him to come up and help. During this, Tian Xingwen accidentally spilled water, prompting An Yan to notice the scars on his arm. After class, she spoke with him and learned that he had inflicted the scars on himself because he felt his family didn’t accept him.

Rather than scolding him for his grades, An Yan praised his calligraphy, which boosted Tian Xingwen's confidence and led him to join the calligraphy club.

An Yan discussed Tian Xingwen's situation with Cong Jun Sheng and decided to bring in a psychological expert for counseling. A psychologist from the city hospital conducted an engaging mental health lesson for all faculty and students, along with psychological testing. During individual counseling, Tian Xingwen received more care and understanding. Cong Jun Sheng took the children outdoors for science experiments, cultivating their interest in nature and science.

An Yan visited Tian Xingwen’s home and found that his mother was overly critical of him, even belittling him. She presented the psychological assessment results, urging her to pay attention to her child's mental health. Zhang Nan’s hometown successfully emerged from poverty thanks to everyone’s efforts. To support Zhang Nan, Xiaoyue gave up her job in Shanghai and came to the Fourteenth Middle School as a special teacher, strengthening their bond.

An Yan returned to Gouxi Village with Nuan Nuan, which had transformed into a picturesque boutique guesthouse, thanks in large part to Lu Guang Bin’s hard work. Tian Xingwen excelled in the school calligraphy competition, becoming the school's calligrapher. However, when he wanted to share this honor with his family, he faced his mother’s indifference and misunderstanding.

An Yan encouraged him and helped outline a path for him to pursue his dream of attending a military academy. Principal Liang announced that enrollment had surpassed a thousand, with online teaching proving effective, yet Cong Jun Sheng remained concerned about the school’s direction. He suggested a steady approach but was unable to persuade Principal Liang. Tian Xingwen continued to face challenges at home, but with An Yan's support, he learned resilience and grew more determined to achieve his dreams.
