Episode 10 recap: Yan Xing Bites Shen Du in a Moment of Panic
In Episode 10, Shen Du enters Hongwen Academy, where a lively crowd has gathered outside. Inside, Yan Xing and Pan Chi cleverly "portray" Han Shi Yuan using shadows, leading the scholars to mistake it for reality and gasp in surprise. Shen Du intervenes to ask what’s happening, and the truth is revealed—it was a prank by Lan Guizhou, who created the illusion with light and shadow.
Shen Du feels displeased, especially seeing Pan Chi and Yan Xing getting along so well, which adds to his discomfort, prompting him to leave in anger.
Later, Shen Du secretly investigates Pan Chi, while Lan Guizhou is taken away for questioning but remains silent. Yan Xing reveals that Lan Guizhou harbored resentment due to a misunderstanding about Han Shi Yuan eloping and was driven to impulsive actions after a significant poetry book was destroyed by classmates, leading to tragedy.
It turns out that Lan Guizhou never intended to harm anyone; he only wanted to force Han Shi Yuan to reveal himself. Ultimately, Lan Guizhou confesses that he has hidden Han Shi Yuan in the West Market.
Shen Du and Yan Xing rush there, only to find animal carcasses left by Lan Guizhou, with Han Shi Yuan already missing. A signal flare lights up the night sky, and as Shen Du and Yan Xing race forward, Yan Xing nearly falls off her horse but is saved by Shen Du. When they arrive at their destination, they are shocked to discover Yan Caiwei and Han Shi Yuan suspended in midair, surrounded by moths, creating a bizarre atmosphere.
Just then, a man claiming to be the serial killer Chen Huomei from five years ago, who is actually deceased, appears and declares his intent to be reborn.
Shen Du steps up to fight him while Yan Xing hides nearby. At a critical moment, Han Shi Yuan and Yan Caiwei are rescued, and Zhang Baohuan, a subordinate of Princess Yong'an, appears, cautioning Han Shi Yuan to be careful, raising suspicions in Shen Du.
Both Shen Du and Yan Xing sense a deeper connection between Han Shi Yuan, Princess Yong'an, and Zhang Baohuan, while Yan Caiwei seems completely unaware.
Yan Xing continues to investigate the arson case linked to Chen Huomei and eventually captures him. Chen Huomei boasts that he knows the way to be reborn, echoing words similar to those of Madam Tang, which raises concerns.
Everyone speculates that tonight’s Chen Huomei may not be who he claims to be, hinting at darker forces at play and impending danger. Meanwhile, Lu Chui Chui encounters a masked man while visiting a grave, who turns out to be Jiang Langxing, though she remains unconcerned.
Feeling guilty for biting Shen Du, Yan Xing takes care of him, leading to a subtle shift in their relationship. Shen Du suddenly feels unwell, caused by Yan Xing mistakenly using the wrong medicine. In a moment of panic, Yan Xing rinses Shen Du’s arm in her bath, creating an awkward yet warm scene.
The next day, Wu Zhu Shi discusses the "resurrection" of Chen Huomei while Lu Chui Chui submits her reports. Yan Xing wishes to delve deeper into the investigation but is politely denied by Wu Zhu Shi. Fortunately, Luo Zhi offers assistance and suggests collaboration, which Yan Xing declines.
Princess Yong'an unexpectedly meets Han Shi Yuan, who is carrying medicine. She feigns generosity but struggles to hide her disappointment.
This series of events weaves together a complex web of clues, suggesting that each character harbors hidden secrets and entanglements. Shen Du, Yan Xing, and the others are gradually uncovering the truth, yet the path ahead remains fraught with uncertainty and challenges.
