Episode 15 recap: Yan Xing Framed
In episode 15, Zhang Baohuan arrives at Princess Yong'an's residence, intent on taking Han Shiyuan away. The princess emerges, stating that she merely invited Han Shiyuan as a guest. Zhang Baohuan argues that a visit should be mutually agreed upon, but it's clear that Han Shiyuan is unwilling. On the way over, Han Shiyuan encountered Shen Du and Yan Xing.
Princess Yong'an tells Zhang Baohuan to take Han Shiyuan away, questioning whether Yan Xing can truly protect him, even temporarily. A subordinate reports to Shen Du that numerous moth-shaped jade pieces have appeared at Jinxiu Fang, along with the re-emergence of a former acquaintance, in a strange form.
Shen Du and Yan Xing arrive to find many citizens kneeling, believing that Manager Han is manifesting his spirit. As they gather the moth-shaped jade pieces, Yan Xing shares his thoughts with Shen Du, expressing that such feats couldn't be performed by an ordinary person, implying a significant figure is behind it.
Shen Du insists that Yan Xing should stop investigating the case, but Yan Xing disagrees, determined to uncover the truth. The next day, Yan Xing wakes up early, mentioning plans to stroll with Lu Chui Chui before rushing out.
Shen Du calls Jing Lin over, explaining that Yan Xing will not heed his advice to cease the investigation and instructs Jing Lin to follow him. Yan Xing arrives at the Chen family's residence, where he meets Chen Shouzheng, who claims it was a fire moth that appeared. Yan Xing notices that the testimony from the Chen family's elder is identical, suggesting it was rehearsed.
Chen Shouzheng throws powder at Yan Xing, causing him to hallucinate, believing the elder has fled, and he rushes after him. Jing Lin sees Yan Xing leave and quickly follows. Upon reaching Mingsheng Temple, Yan Xing discovers a figure there, only to find it is the Chen family elder, who is already dead.
Princess Runing arrives, accusing Yan Xing of having the audacity to kill at Mingsheng Temple and orders his arrest.
Shen Du learned about the situation and rushed over. Lai Luo Zhi also arrived, stating that he was there to investigate the case. Shen Du argued his points vigorously with Lai Luo Zhi, who ultimately agreed to question Yan Xing the next day, indicating that Shen Du only had one night to act.
Shen Du examined the body of the Chen family elder. The elder's shoes were clean, but if he had gone outside the city, they would have been muddy, suggesting he hadn’t left on his own. Lu Chui Chui arrived in a panic but felt relieved to see Shen Du at the house. Shen Du continued his investigation at the Chen residence and noted that there were no signs of a struggle in Chen Shouzheng's room. However, there was a lot of blood on the elder's bed, indicating it was likely the murder scene.
Shen Du had someone look into the whereabouts of the Xian Wang and discovered he had met Princess Runing at Mingsheng Temple. Shen Du approached Princess Runing and asked what would happen if the Empress Dowager found out the Xian Wang had come to see her. The princess inquired about Shen Du's intentions, to which he replied that he merely wanted to uncover the truth.
Princess Runing was surprised that Shen Du would go to such lengths for Yan Xing. She recalled that if the Xian Wang had indeed visited yesterday and Shen Du hadn’t been there to witness the murder, the Xian Wang would have exited through the back door and found the box containing the body outside. Shen Du insisted that he would get to the bottom of the Jinxiu Fang case.
Lai Luo Zhi approached to interrogate Yan Xing, but Shen Du presented the Empress Dowager's order, stating that the matter was to be handled entirely by the Imperial Guard. Lu Chui Chui was very happy to see Yan Xing come out. Shen Du urged Yan Xing not to pursue the case any further, but Yan Xing refused, asserting that he would find the truth.
Yan Xing told Shen Du that if he feared the powerful, he should write a divorce decree, allowing Yan Xing to investigate alone without dragging Shen Du into it. Infuriated, Shen Du walked away.
