Episode 29 recap: Shen Du Poisoned
In episode 29, Shen Du and his companions return to town, where several citizens have suddenly died. Yan Xing investigates and discovers that the poison resembles that of the Fire Moth Sect. After seeing a hidden compartment behind a portrait of Xiuxiu, Shen Du opens it and finds a box inside. Then, Lai Luofu arrives and fights Shen Du.
Although Lai Luofu is disguised as Chen Huomei, Shen Du asserts that he can remember everyone he has fought, and their skills don't lie—Lai Luofu is not Chen Huomei. Shen Du demands the antidote, and Lai Luofu throws a vial at him, claiming it is genuine but warns that the poison on the vial is enough to harm Shen Du.
Shen Du realizes that their actions are all aimed at him and believes the antidote is real. Yan Xing rushes in and asks how Shen Du is doing, but Shen Du suddenly succumbs to the poison and becomes violent, choking Yan Xing. Yan Xing repeatedly calls Shen Du's name, which brings him back to his senses.
The citizens who took the antidote have recovered, but Shen Du's condition worsens, and the doctor is at a loss. Yan Xing doesn't know the type of poison Shen Du has been infected with or how to cure it, so he resorts to acupuncture to slow the toxin's spread.
Pan Chi arrives and suggests that the poison resembles that of the Jinwu tribe, which has had no contact with Da Cang for many years and is very wary of them. He offers to investigate the Jinwu tribe himself. However, shortly after setting off, he is knocked unconscious.
Yan Xing prepares a herbal remedy for Shen Du, but he cannot swallow it. Yan Xing feels distressed, expressing his longing for Shen Du and hoping he will wake up soon. Pan Chi returns, bringing a girl named Suguang from the Jinwu tribe.
Suguang confirms that the poison is indeed from her tribe but insists it shouldn't have spread outside. She reveals that a priestess from their tribe went missing, and it is likely she brought the poison with her. Suguang produces an antidote for Shen Du but reminds Pan Chi not to forget his promise.
Pan Chi agrees. Yan Xing administers the antidote to Shen Du and stays by his side. When Shen Du wakes up, he feels puzzled and requests a reexamination at Guangchun Hall, where they discover traces of vermilion.
Vermilion is scarce in their region and tightly controlled by the court, indicating a deep infiltration of their power. Lai Luofu arrives with others, and Shen Du confronts him. However, Lai Luofu uses a fire technique and escapes.
Suguang observes the flames and explains that it’s a combustion technique developed by the missing priestess, capable of burning down the entire building. Shen Du questions their intentions, and Suguang admits that while they hadn’t mentioned the priestess's disappearance before, they suspect her involvement in the recent occurrences and aim to bring her back.
Pan Chi confronts Shen Du, insisting that since he and Yan Xing have made a promise, they should separate quickly, or he won't let Shen Du off easily. Shen Du tells Pan Chi that he should understand the bond between him and Yan Xing and urges him not to dwell on it.
Shen Du notices Pan Chi's intent to go to the Jinwu tribe with Suguang, but Pan Chi says nothing further. As Shen Du and Yan Xing leave, grateful citizens present them with food as a token of thanks.
