As she exited, she ran into her mother, who, seeing Yan Xing's distressed state, immediately asked what was wrong. Before Yan Xing could explain, she fainted. The next day, upon waking, she learned that Shen Du had sent the separation papers, making her frantic to find them. Her parents and brother discussed Shen Du's involvement with Lai Luo Zhi, all expressing disbelief. Her father remarked that with the separation papers received, Shen Du's future actions would no longer concern their family.
Her brother quietly informed her that her good friends Xu Shuai and Yun Que had perished while trying to save her the night she went to the palace to plead for leniency, fearing the news would upset her. Yan Xing overheard this and felt overwhelmed with regret, believing she had caused their deaths. When Shen Du arrived to comfort her, advising her not to blame herself, she couldn’t accept his words. In a moment of determination, Yan Xing used a hairpin to cut Shen Du’s hand and pressed his blood onto the separation papers, marking a definitive end to their past.
Meanwhile, Lu Chui Chui also arrived, burdened by guilt, knowing Xu Shuai and Yun Que had sacrificed themselves for her. Yan Xing reassured her that she shouldn’t feel responsible and acknowledged that she and Shen Du were now on separate paths.
On the other hand, Lai Luo Zhi had gained immense power, even taking control over the scrutiny of officials. With the Empress Dowager gravely ill, he audaciously sought to preside over the court in her stead. Princess Yong'an was furious, demanding to know how an outsider like Lai Luo Zhi could have such authority over the Xiao family's empire. Lai Luo Zhi sneered, revealing he knew all about Yong'an’s connections with Minister Zhang and even mentioned Mo Qian's memorial.
Shen Du confirmed Lai Luo Zhi's claims, shocking Princess Yong'an and the others. When she attempted to call for help, she realized no one was available to assist her, as Lai Luo Zhi ordered her and Minister Zhang to be placed under house arrest.

Later, Lai Luo Zhi took Jiang Langxing to confront Lu Chui Chui, forcing her to sing for him—a song her mother used to sing to him. Jiang Langxing advised Lu Chui Chui to ignore Lai Luo Zhi's unreasonable demands, but she had no choice but to sing through her tears. Seizing the moment, Lai Luo Zhi proposed a deal: if Lu Chui Chui agreed to be with him, he would spare everyone else. Lu Chui Chui remained silent, firmly rejecting his offer.
