Episode 14 recap: Shen Lei's Disappearance Worries His Sister
In Episode 14, Shen Lei has gone missing and is staying in a random hotel room alone. As he lies on the bed, memories of the sweet moments he shared with Xie Mei Lan flood his mind, and he can't help but shed tears. The next day, he returns to a familiar place, only to find that the rack filled with locks is gone, just like his relationship with Xie Mei Lan—now a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, Shen Lin is thriving at work. Despite having taken a break, her skills have not diminished; in fact, she has become quite proficient and is now conducting interviews for job seekers. One candidate, Zheng Wenna, is thirty years old, married without children, and has made it clear that she won’t be having kids for the next three years as she wants to focus entirely on her career. Shen Lin sees this as the perfect fit for their needs and quickly recommends her to Hu Hai Li. After some persuasion, Hu Hai Li agrees to refer Zheng Wenna to the media department for an interview with the media director. However, if Zheng Wenna lacks the necessary skills, the HR department won’t give her another chance; it all depends on her.
On another front, Na Juan has turned to a matchmaking platform for help. His first match is impressive and shares his love for planning, but she's overly dominant, treating marriage like a business partnership, where everything must be calculated. Na Juan finds this exhausting. The woman remarks that those who claim not to care often care the most, fearing that if they don’t, they’ll be at a disadvantage.
One day, while fixing a car, Na Wei suggests that Xiao Yue head back and have dinner with Na Juan. However, Xiao Yue reveals that she and Na Juan have broken up because he thinks she’s not ambitious enough, given her second-tier university background. Na Wei is shocked and immediately seeks out Na Juan. When he arrives, he finds Na Juan just finishing an unpleasant blind date, where the woman seems to be enjoying the meal a bit too much, leading Na Juan to suspect she’s just there for a free meal.
In reality, the woman is simply living her life and using this approach to weed out opportunistic "phoenix men." Na Wei advises Na Juan to apologize to Xiao Yue, but Na Juan stubbornly refuses, believing she doesn’t deserve him. Eventually, he realizes he still loves her, and she has feelings for him too. Summoning his courage, he apologizes, and they reconcile.
As for Xie Mei Lan, unable to find help, she calls Shen Lin. When Shen Lin arrives at the police station, she discovers that Shen Lei has been arrested for fighting with Xie Mei Lan’s boss, Lu Jie. This revelation raises doubts in Shen Lin's mind about Xie Mei Lan's relationship with Lu Jie. A heated argument ensues at the station, and Shen Lin impulsively considers confronting Lu Jie at Xie Mei Lan’s workplace. Thankfully, Na Wei intervenes, reminding her that finding Shen Lei is the priority.
This series of events is truly thought-provoking. Sometimes, people only realize the value of what they had after it’s gone. Other times, misunderstandings and biases almost lead them to miss out on the right person. Fortunately, in the end, everyone finds their direction and happiness.
