Episode 19 recap: Boldly Moving Forward
In this episode, Na Juan returns home after work to find Li Xiao Yue busy making hairpins. She boasts that she might become a master craftsman someday, with her creations being highly sought after. Noticing Na Juan rubbing his eyes, she thoughtfully brings him eye drops and serves him soup. Seeing her caring nature, Na Juan suddenly feels a rush of affection and pulls her into the bedroom.
Meanwhile, Shen Lei enjoys a peaceful and slow-paced life on the mountain. He clears his mind, picks some flowers to put in a vase, and occasionally tends to the garden. Zhu Pei Dong honestly confides in Shen Lin that while the HR department of the company doesn’t need more staff, he can offer her a position in administration. The job comes with a post-tax salary of 6,500 yuan, no probation period, and she can start next Monday. Shen Lin is overwhelmed with gratitude, surprised by the support from her old classmate.
Na Wei meets with Li Xiao Yue to discuss his desire to start a business and asks if she’d like to join him. Without hesitation, Li Xiao Yue agrees and even offers many constructive suggestions. Na Wei agrees to let her take a share in the business, with a 70-30 split, and he will cover the initial costs for the studio.
On Friday, Shen Lin and Na Wei sit in a car in their neighborhood, sharing updates about their progress. However, they forget that Shen Lin's daughter gets out of school early, and they are discovered hiding in the car. They quickly change the subject, claiming they are heading to a restaurant. They go out to eat at a family-friendly restaurant with their children and Na Wei's mother.
In the R&D department, Wu Dashen successfully transitions from a technical role to a management position at just 30 years old. In contrast, 33-year-old Na Juan is still only a team leader, which leaves him feeling discontent. He approaches Manager Lu about a transfer, but Lu refuses, instead painting a rosy picture of his future, leaving Na Juan with no choice but to let it go.
Back home, Na Juan discusses his thoughts with Li Xiao Yue. He expresses that her partnership with Na Wei feels like child’s play and that ultimately, they should seek stable jobs. Li Xiao Yue, feeling frustrated, counters that Na Wei's decision to start a business stems from desperation. He has invested everything, needing to make this work, and Na Juan's lack of support feels condescending.
Shen Lin accompanies Na Wei and Li Xiao Yue to scout potential workspaces. They find that the locations are either undesirable, too expensive, or lack windows, making them unsuitable for a studio. Old Ke appreciates Shen Lei’s abilities and offers him potatoes, hoping he can tutor his daughter Xiaoxue. He expresses his wish for Shen Lei to help as the college entrance exams approach, and after some persuasion, Shen Lei reluctantly agrees.
Na Wei is torn between a spacious three-bedroom apartment and office space in a building. After Shen Lin explains the pros and cons, Na Wei ultimately decides to rent the office space. That evening, Shen Lei takes a moment to video call his parents to inform them about his tutoring plans for Old Ke's daughter. They express concern that he should focus on his own affairs first but say nothing further.
On Monday, Shen Lin starts her new job at Zhu Pei Dong’s company, where her boss, Peng Xinyi, is younger than she is and seems quite pleasant.
