Episode 20 recap: Setbacks at Work

In Episode 20, Shen Lin had just organized her workspace when she eagerly asked Administrative Assistant Xiao Zheng if she needed help, but Xiao Zheng politely declined. Not wanting to be idle, Shen Lin approached Manager Peng, who didn’t assign her any tasks right away but suggested she familiarize herself with the company’s policies.

At lunchtime, Shen Lin tried to bond with her colleagues by inviting them to lunch, but everyone either ordered takeout or brought their own meals. Reluctantly, she went out alone to eat a bowl of rice noodles and even video-called Na Wei, who was busy moving things and had found some office supplies at a bargain.

Li Xiao Yue was particularly clever; while chatting with the agent, she not only clarified the studio's business but also managed to get two sofas delivered. After lunch, when Shen Lin saw her colleagues pooling together to buy milk tea, she eagerly joined in, hoping to strengthen their relationships, only to find herself feeling like a “third wheel.” When Na Wei’s studio opened, his brother Na Juan supported him with a transfer, and Li Xiao Yue’s smile indicated that her reminder from the night before had paid off.

That evening, Shen Lin accompanied Na Wei to the supermarket and thoughtfully bought him some sleep aids. The next day, she brought small gifts for each colleague, including Manager Peng, signaling her readiness to dive into work. Peng promptly assigned her tasks, and although Shen Lin faced a lot of tedious administrative work, she handled it all with great organization and even discovered a broken chair.

She suggested repairing it, but Manager Peng, concerned about the company's image, decided to replace it and asked her to contact the supplier. Unfortunately, the supplier was out of stock and needed five days to deliver. When Shen Lin reported this, Peng expressed skepticism.

At a crucial moment, Na Wei stepped in and quickly found suitable chairs through second-hand channels that were both economical and practical. During lunch break, General Manager Zhu praised Shen Lin for her frugal and efficient methods, encouraging her to keep looking for optimization opportunities in administrative expenses. However, this made Peng unhappy, as she mistakenly believed Shen Lin had bypassed her to report directly to Zhu.

Na Wei waited fruitlessly at Chen's company, but Li Xiao Yue encouraged him. Zhu expressed satisfaction with the meeting preparations while reminding Xiao Peng to pay attention to cost control. Coincidentally, Xiao Zheng used documents Shen Lin had placed in the recycling bin to create an expense report, which Zhu caught, leading to a misunderstanding. Peng angrily questioned Shen Lin, who maintained her innocence. Zhu intervened to calm Shen Lin and assured her it wouldn’t affect her.

Before the end of the workday, Shen Lin wanted to explain the situation to Peng, but she was unavailable. This small upheaval added more challenges to Shen Lin's early career journey, but she remained positive and ready to face new challenges ahead.
