Episode 23 recap: Deafness Becomes an Occupational Hazard
In this episode, Na Juan loses his hearing, and Li Xiao Yue insists on taking him to the hospital. However, in the parking lot, Na Juan insists on driving and shouts at Li Xiao Yue to stay away. Reluctantly, she hands him the car keys, and he accelerates straight into a pillar.Li Xiao Yue is startled, unsure of Na Juan's intentions. When Na Juan gets out of the car unscathed, he loudly instructs her to call the company and say he was in an accident on his way to work, which caused his hearing loss. Although Li Xiao Yue disagrees with his plan, she complies.
That evening, they go to the hospital for an examination. The doctor reviews the scans and indicates that there's nothing wrong, suggesting that the hearing loss might be due to work-related stress or a minor concussion from the accident. Li Xiao Yue calls Na Wei, telling a small lie that Na Juan has a fever and needs to be hospitalized. She takes a short leave to care for him, assuring that she can handle her work from the hospital.
Since adopting the puppy, Shen Lei has been consistently feeding it, leading a simple and pure life. Mr. Lu, representing the company, visits Na Juan in the hospital. Although Na Juan's hearing is improving, he continues to play along with his act. Mr. Lu relays that the company management is very pleased with Na Juan's dedication and has held a meeting to publicly commend him.
Additionally, the company decides to give Na Juan a two-week paid leave. Hearing this news, Na Juan can barely contain his smile. With his condition recognized as an occupational injury, the company cannot dismiss him at this time. Meanwhile, after several days of training, Shen Lin finds her wrists aching; while the job of a postpartum caregiver pays well, it is quite demanding.
In a moment of reflection, Shen Lin recalls her work experiences and chuckles at herself. A community event organizer contacts Na Wei, asking for help with planning and filming a charity performance. At that moment, Yue Yue runs in wanting them to check her homework, mentioning that the laundry is done. Shen Lin and Na Wei suddenly remember there are caregiver uniforms in the washing machine and hurriedly find excuses to send their mother-in-law and daughter away. Shen Lin receives a call from her mother, reminding her not to overwork herself.
The planning goes smoothly, and the leaders are pleased with Na Wei's revisions. Li Xiao Yue becomes even more capable, as her videos are well-received by the elderly, who all want to add her on WeChat and send her red envelopes for help with editing. Since Na Juan is nearly recovered, Li Xiao Yue asks him to assist with the video editing.
The arts competition concludes successfully, with the organizer highly praising Na Wei's hosting abilities. They even mention that the neighboring community came to observe and want Na Wei's contact information, which she eagerly provides. Na Juan feels anxious about not working and decides to return to work the following Monday, despite Li Xiao Yue's attempts to persuade him otherwise.
Meanwhile, Shen Lin's mother-in-law accidentally discovers Shen Lin's caregiver training certificate and, taking advantage of Yue Yue's absence, asks to have a serious talk with Shen Lin and Na Wei.
