Episode 28 recap: Funding the Job

In Episode 28, Li Xiao Yue and her brother Na Wei rush to the hospital, where they find Mr. Lu and the HR director waiting for them. Their brother, Na Juan, is stubbornly refusing to tell the truth. Once the leaders leave, he quietly asks Li Xiao Yue to help him get an appointment with the psychiatrist, specifically requesting the same doctor as last time.

When the doctor sees Na Juan, he asks if he's been taking his medication, to which Na Juan shakes his head. The doctor reiterates the importance of taking the medication, resigning from work, and avoiding stress, warning that things will only get worse.

Li Xiao Yue privately asks Na Juan why he isn't taking his meds. He explains that the side effects might affect his job and that he believes he can manage his condition on his own. Na Wei, overhearing this, becomes upset and brings up their mother, saying they don’t expect Na Juan to make a lot of money; they just want him to be safe and healthy.

After settling Na Juan, Li Xiao Yue confides in Na Wei, expressing her frustration at not knowing how to persuade their brother. Na Wei empathizes with Na Juan, understanding that he’s afraid of being poor and desperately wants to change his and their family's situation, which is a heavy burden.

For the next few days, Li Xiao Yue has to take care of Na Juan, leaving all studio matters to Na Wei.

Meanwhile, Bai Han Ning, who doesn’t like soup, has her employer call Shen Lin to persuade her. Shen Lin tempts her with delicious food, promising to make her something tasty after she drinks the soup. This tactic works; Bai Han Ning ends up drinking the soup, and Shen Lin keeps her promise. However, Bai Han Ning's mother-in-law is a problem, constantly nitpicking. Shen Lin tries to help communicate, but the mother-in-law ignores her and complains to Ding Song Tao, putting Bai Han Ning in a difficult position.

One day, while Shen Lin is preparing chicken for Bai Han Ning, the mother-in-law barges in, smells the food, and starts arguing with Shen Lin. When Ding Song Tao arrives, he tells Bai Han Ning to be quiet and reminds Shen Lin not to forget her place.

Although Li Xiao Yue is at home, she can't stop thinking about work. Na Juan notices her distraction and urges her to return to work, promising to take his medication. Skeptical, Li Xiao Yue leaves, but Na Juan doesn't actually swallow the pills and throws them up as soon as she’s gone.

Back at the studio, the project is still moving forward, but funds are tight. Li Xiao Yue warns Na Wei not to keep covering expenses, or the debt will just keep growing. Left with no choice, Na Wei seeks help from Lao Gao.

Lao Gao, equally frustrated, explains that the client is slow to pay and his own company is short on cash. He offers Na Wei two options: continue to fund the project or hand it off to someone else. Since he has a strong relationship with Lao Gao, Na Wei decides to push through, even if it means borrowing money. Li Xiao Yue is reluctant but feels she has no choice but to support him.

As for Bai Han Ning, Ding Song Tao, though he doesn’t take Shen Lin's advice seriously, agrees to let Shen Lin cook beef for Bai Han Ning. Shen Lin seizes the opportunity to mention postpartum depression, hoping Ding Song Tao will take it seriously. He responds by saying that chatting with Shen Lin is quite enjoyable, and leaves it at that.
