Episode 32 recap: Switching Careers to Sell Braised Dishes
In episode 32, Brother Zhiguo shows his warm-hearted nature by helping the Shen Lin family with their moving process, even bringing over some food. At the dinner table, he reiterates his old advice, saying that in today's world, as long as one doesn't mind the hard work and can set aside their pride, it's definitely possible to make a living. Na Juan smiles and agrees outwardly, but inwardly, she doesn’t feel the same. She secretly texts Xiaoyue to finish her meal and leave quickly, wanting to avoid the conversation.
Zhiguo seizes the opportunity to suggest that Na Wei drive his BMW for a ride-sharing service, claiming he could earn some extra cash. Na Wei, feeling conflicted, makes an excuse and slips out.
Later that evening, Shen Lin and Na Wei discuss their future and agree that he should take a couple of days to think things over. However, Na Wei is sensitive and mistakenly assumes Shen Lin wants him to drive for ride-sharing too. He quickly waves his hands, saying that in his current state, driving could lead to serious issues. Shen Lin is taken aback and hurriedly clarifies that she didn’t mean that at all.
The next morning, with a driving restriction in Beijing, Shen Lin sets an alarm, but Na Wei sleeps soundly and can’t be awakened. Shen Lin gets up on her own, and her mother-in-law has already prepared breakfast. After eating, Shen Lin takes her son, Yueyue, to school. On the bus, Yueyue complains about waking up early, which tugs at Shen Lin’s heart, but she doesn't know how to comfort him, so she silently accompanies him.
Meanwhile, at home, Shen Lin’s mother-in-law is bargaining with a scrap collector early in the morning. The noise wakes Na Wei, who steps outside to give away the scrap and insists on not taking any money, saying it's to lighten his mother’s burden.
Na Juan, having taken her medication, insists on going to work, but her memory is clearly not what it used to be. When she tries to log into the company’s internal network for information, she finds her access restricted. Upon inquiry, she learns that Zhang Peng has been performing exceptionally well lately and that General Manager Lu is considering promoting him to manager while Na Juan has been marginalized due to recent events.
Na Wei is not one to back down; he discreetly records a video on his phone while his colleagues are busy working overtime, planning to keep it as leverage. On Shen Lin’s side, she hears good news at the market: renting a stall allows her to get a business license as a sole proprietor, which would solve Yueyue’s schooling issue.
Excited, she discusses this with her mother-in-law, and they quickly agree to set up a stall selling braised dishes. Her mother-in-law fully supports the idea, but Na Wei remains unenthusiastic, spending his days cooped up at home with the child.
On another front, Shen Lei and Xie Meilan officially schedule their divorce proceedings, which will include a cooling-off period. When they meet again, Xie Meilan notices Shen Lei has changed, becoming more mature and composed. After dinner, she suggests they share a meal, and Shen Lei agrees, stating that neither of them is at fault for their situation; they simply want different lives now.
With the help of her cousins, Shen Lin quickly gathers the necessary tools for her stall and contacts a meat supplier. Her cousins praise her cooking skills, saying she was underutilized before and is finally ready to shine. While Shen Lin and her mother-in-law prepare the braised dishes, Na Wei still wallows in his disappointment. However, with this new hope at home, he believes he can gradually lift his spirits.
As for Na Juan, rather than remaining silent about General Manager Lu’s neglect and exclusion, she cleverly records video and audio conversations to advocate for her rights.
