Episode 6 recap: When She Spoke Too Harshly, His Wife Left

In Episode 6, that evening, Shen Lin was having dinner at home while chatting with Lao Na about Shen Lei's situation, mentioning that Shen Lei needed to borrow money. Lao Na had no objections, but he was worried about the unpaid debt from Zhao Pengju and didn’t want Shen Lin to notice, so he retreated to his room.

Zhao Pengju, persistent like a stubborn sticker, kept chasing after Na Wei. Eventually, Na Wei couldn’t take it anymore and blocked him on WeChat. But Zhao Pengju didn’t give up; he showed up at her workplace. With no other option, Na Wei reluctantly invited him into her office and added him back on WeChat to finally get rid of him.

During a management meeting at the company, Qin Lingling raised a point about the current KPI assessment system being unsuitable for the veteran management team. She was discussing with General Qin the possibility of switching to an OKR assessment method, where ratings would directly tie to their performance. Although Na Wei was somewhat distracted during the meeting, he still caught the key parts. So when Qin Lingling asked for his opinion, he casually replied, “OK.”

At lunch, Na Wei and Jiang Shan were eating noodles when they started discussing Zhao Pengju’s debt collection antics. Jiang Shan, sharing Liu Yan's thoughts, insisted that this matter should remain confidential. If Qin Lingling found out, given Na Wei’s strong ties with Wang Ruizhi, she would definitely suspect Na Wei was helping Wang Ruizhi’s mistress start a business.

Jiang Shan suggested that Na Wei either come clean to Shen Lin and pool resources to pay off the debt for peace of mind, or secretly pay it off himself and earn it back with his salary over the next couple of years. Na Wei felt anxious at the thought of confessing to Shen Lin, recalling how upset she got over a minor incident involving a borrowed ID. If he brought this up, wouldn’t it cause even more trouble?

Just then, Zhao Pengju sent him a photo of himself with a spray can, threatening to vandalize Na Wei’s car. Alarmed, Na Wei rushed out, fearing he’d arrive too late and find his car ruined. At the parking lot, while he was grappling with Zhao Pengju, Qin Lingling happened to pass by in her car. She rolled down her window and asked what was going on.

Thinking quickly, Na Wei concocted a lie to brush off Qin Lingling. Seeing this, Zhao Pengju mistakenly believed Na Wei was outside doing side work and threatened to report him to Qin Lingling. Furious, Na Wei told him to go ahead; if he got fired, he wouldn’t see a dime. This tactic worked surprisingly well, and Zhao Pengju immediately backed down.

The next day, Na Wei wanted to borrow money from Na Juan, but Na Juan had just bought a house and couldn’t spare the 800,000 yuan.

Na Wei had no choice but to go home and tell Shen Lin that the company needed a cash advance. Shen Lin wasn’t easily fooled and pressed Na Wei for details on what the money was for. Na Wei stumbled over his words, unable to provide a clear answer, which only made Shen Lin more reluctant to give him the money.

As they argued back and forth, tensions escalated, and their words grew increasingly hurtful, severely damaging Shen Lin's pride. Their two children woke up, crying loudly. In a fit of anger, Shen Lin handed their wailing son to Na Wei, flung her bank card out the door, and slammed the door shut behind her.

Lying in bed, Shen Lin couldn’t sleep. In the middle of the night, she saw Na Wei asleep on the sofa with their second child and felt a pang of discomfort. Reflecting on the hurtful things Na Wei had said, she became disheartened and decided to pack her things and leave home. The next morning, while Na Wei was busy soothing their second child and getting their daughter ready for school, he realized Shen Lin was missing.

He didn’t think he had done anything wrong and sent Shen Lin a confrontational message. Their daughter and son were crying, and Na Wei had no choice but to take a day off and ask Li Xiaoyue to attend the meeting in his place.

Shen Lin wandered aimlessly outside all day, not returning home, just strolling the streets without a destination. Na Wei only knew to call around looking for her, but their daughter, unable to bear it any longer, insisted on going to find her mother. This finally panicked Na Wei, who hurriedly gathered his things and took the two children out the door. Before they could get in the car, they encountered Xiaoyue and Na Juan rushing over. The kids immediately started crying and complaining that Na Wei had driven their mother away.

Meanwhile, Shen Lin had already settled into a hotel. The three adults quickly went to the security room to check the surveillance footage and found a clip of Shen Lin leaving the neighborhood.
