Episode 8 recap: Marital Tensions
In Episode 8, Qin Feng surprisingly had a bed moved directly into the office, making it feel like home. Qin Lingling, on the other hand, didn’t budge an inch. Everyone in the company, from the senior veterans like Yan Na and Jiang Shan to the regular employees, seemed frozen, unable to move.
The seasoned employees like Yan Na and Jiang Shan managed to sneak in some downtime, while the others could only sneak away for moments of fun.
Meanwhile, Shen Lin confided in Old Na that she planned to switch jobs and go work for Hu Haili. She mentioned that due to various reasons, she couldn’t rely on her sister Zhang at home and had to ask her mother-in-law for help with the kids. Old Na couldn’t help but worry, remembering the conflicts Shen Lin had with her mother over her pregnancy. Shen Lin herself admitted that her emotions had gotten the better of her back then, but now, necessity forced her to reach out to her mother-in-law. She even offered to give her mother-in-law 3,000 yuan a month as a token of appreciation.
After discussing it with her husband, they called her mother-in-law. Shen Lin sincerely apologized, and her mother-in-law softened, agreeing to come to Beijing to help care for the children. On the day she arrived, the family was all smiles, and the kids excitedly welcomed their grandmother. Shen Lin was especially thoughtful, not only being warm and friendly but also discreetly placing a red envelope with 3,000 yuan under her mother-in-law’s pillow. This gesture warmed her mother-in-law’s heart and made past grievances fade away.
Li Xiaoyue and Na Juan visited to cheer up her mother-in-law, making her laugh with their antics. In the kitchen, Old Na quietly thanked Shen Lin for organizing everything so well, bringing such joy to her mother.
On the other hand, things weren't going as smoothly for Xie Meilan. She collapsed while picking up takeout, but fortunately, a kind stranger took her to the hospital and informed Shen Lei.
When Shen Lei arrived at the hospital and learned from the doctor that Meilan had experienced severe bleeding due to an incomplete miscarriage, he felt a whirlwind of emotions. He couldn’t understand why Meilan had kept such a decision from him. After she was discharged, they faced each other, and Shen Lei demanded to know who the father of the child was. Meilan insisted it was his, but when they discussed why she had chosen to terminate the pregnancy, a fierce argument erupted.
It turned out that Meilan was struggling with the grief of her mother’s passing and felt Shen Lei hadn’t taken his responsibilities seriously, which led her to make that choice. Although Shen Lei’s job sounded impressive, it couldn’t adequately support their household, leaving Meilan filled with anxiety and helplessness about the future.
As for Li Xiaoyue, she was working herself to the bone at a beauty company and couldn’t help but vent to Na Juan. Na Juan, sharing her own struggles, sent Li Xiaoyue photos of her own late-night work sessions and joked that working late was a blessing, at least ensuring they weren’t unemployed. Li Xiaoyue’s response was a blunt "Go away," clearly indicating her exhaustion.
Meanwhile, Na Wei couldn’t sleep after having coffee and wanted some intimacy with Shen Lin. Just then, Shen Lei showed up to share his worries, and naturally, Shen Lin sided with her brother. Na Wei suggested that Shen Lei should have a serious talk with Meilan to get to the root of their issues. Before bed, Na Wei casually said something that sparked suspicion in Shen Lin. The next afternoon, she arranged a meeting with Xie Meilan to dig deeper into the situation. The complexities of life truly are tangled and hard to unravel!
