Episode 8 recap: Wang Gang Was Set Up
In Episode 8, Zhang Shu Heng is on set filming with a co-star who can’t seem to remember their lines. The director calls for a break and praises the male lead, Xiao Lu. Zhang Shu Heng is frustrated, thinking that if Xiao Lu can’t remember his lines, how can they be making a movie? Xiao Lu defends himself, saying that as the lead, it’s normal to have a lot of lines to memorize.
Zhang Shu Heng's agent comes over and informs him that Chen Ying Ying is looking for him. He notices a contract left by the agent and discovers that Xiao Lu’s salary is an astonishing ten million. Zhang Shu Heng is furious, shocked at the high payment.
After discussing with Chen Ying Ying, Zhang Shu Heng reveals he has found a way to get back at Su Li. He discovered a script that Su Li has been working on for years, which has already been sold. He plans to threaten Su Li by saying that if she doesn’t agree to his demands, he will release the script, leading to massive financial repercussions for her.
Chen Ying Ying thinks this is a fair way to retaliate. While they leave, Wang Gang Gang sneaks over and takes a USB drive. Later, Wang Gang Gang goes shopping with Su Li, who buys a pair of high heels and asks if Wang Gang Gang can accompany her for an abortion tomorrow.
Wang Gang Gang is shocked to learn that Su Li is pregnant. When she asks if Su Li has thought this through, Su Li firmly states that she has made her decision. Wang Gang Gang hands Su Li a pair of flats, suggesting that since the baby is still there, they should treat it well.
At the hospital, Su Li finds out she is eight weeks pregnant and hears the baby’s heartbeat. The doctor asks if she wants to reconsider, but Su Li insists she’s made up her mind. The doctor informs her that they are fully booked and asks her to return the following Wednesday. Su Li returns home, lost in thought, and falls asleep on the couch.
News of Xiao Lu’s exorbitant salary leaks, and reporters swarm, hoping for a comment from him. His agent takes him back to the company, where the boss is furious and decides to put the production on hold until the controversy dies down. When Zhang Shu Heng sees Xiao Lu, he tells him that if he has too many lines, he doesn’t need to memorize them right now.
Zhang Shu Heng arranges a meeting with Su Li to show her surveillance footage. He has a video of Wang Gang Gang getting into a car, where the contract is clearly visible. If he releases this video, it could suggest that the contract is open to public scrutiny. Su Li asks Zhang Shu Heng what his demands are. He wants half of Su Li’s assets, a public statement affirming he didn’t cheat, and he also requests three major roles for Chen Ying Ying.
Wang Gang Gang accidentally reveals that Su Li is pregnant, shocking Zhang Shu Heng. When Wang Gang Gang returns home, her husband sees Su Li’s medical records and jumps to the conclusion that Wang Gang Gang has been unfaithful, leading to a heated confrontation.
