Episode 10 recap: # To Stay or Leave
In Episode 10, Old Li is reluctant but feels he must retrieve the snake. Just as he’s about to drop it onto Shen Xing's bed, he realizes she's still awake, and his resolve weakens. After a moment of thought, he wraps the snake in a blanket. Turning around, he sees a photo of his wife and daughter on the pillow, and the emotional conflict makes it hard for him to go through with it.
At that moment, Chen Hao's older sister, Mao Pan's mother, rushes in, scolding Chen Hao and Zhou Bin. Sensing the tension, Chen Hao quickly sends Cai Shu away while Wu Hai Shan helps manage the situation.
Suddenly, Dan Tuo bursts back in with shocking news: Mao Pan is alive! He holds a talisman with unique scriptures and a temple emblem, providing irrefutable proof of Mao Pan's survival. Mao Pan's mother is a formidable figure, overseeing Chen Hao's fund and business association, and her influence could pressure Chen Hao into making a decision sooner.
The next morning, Shen Xing wakes up to find her uncle frozen in shock. To her horror, Old Li has been hanged in front of the shed—a scene that sends chills down her spine. As the workers awake and witness this, their faces go pale. Mao Pan arrogantly claims responsibility, and although Shen Xing is furious, she’s unarmed and under threat from the rebels, forcing her to swallow her anger.
With Cai Shu's help, Chen Hao realizes he has been played by the wood dealer and the government forces. It turns out the wood dealer had colluded with the government troops, selling off Chen Hao's territory and then turning against him. Outraged, Chen Hao decides to reclaim his lumberyard—his reasons are solid and justifiable.
Later, Shen Xing learns that Old Li was threatened and killed for not following Mao Pan’s orders to put the snake on her bed. As they prepare to retaliate, Dan Tuo finds an excuse to infiltrate the lumberyard, gathering intel on the rebels' numbers.
Mao Pan continues to play dirty, even ordering lumber to be dropped on Shen Xing and Xituang. Shen Jian Dong sees the danger and rushes forward to push Shen Xing out of the way, but he gets pinned under a falling tree. Lan Bo also tries to save Xituang but is too late, as a branch pierces Xituang’s body.
Mao Pan and his group refused to let anyone approach, but fortunately, Dan Tuo and the others arrived just in time to saw through the logs and rescue the victims, taking them to the hospital.
Shen Jian Dong’s leg was injured too severely, and he had to undergo amputation. Xituang's situation was even more dire, suffering from intracranial bleeding and lung injuries, putting his life at risk. Lan Bo was frantic, like an ant on a hot pan, yet felt powerless. His anger towards Mao Pan was intense; he wished he could tear him apart.
Chen Hao reassured his sister that Ai Suo would personally handle the situation and told her not to worry. Dan Tuo visited Shen Jian Dong in the hospital, and soon Cai Shu and the others arrived. Shen Jian Dong, aware of the troubles in Sanbianpo, quickly expressed his intention to repay Cai Shu and mentioned his plan to return home with Shen Xing to avoid the turmoil.
Cai Shu didn’t comment much, only saying they would discuss it once Shen Jian Dong’s injuries healed. After they left, Shen Jian Dong's worries deepened. Just outside the ward, he ran into Jue Xin, and Shen Xing quickly introduced them, with both sides exchanging polite words.
Mao Pan arrived at the hospital with money, along with Wu Hai Shan and Zhou Bin, intending to apologize to Ai Suo. However, his arrogant demeanor led to a confrontation with Dan Tuo, who subdued him. While Ai Suo remained outwardly calm, his words made it clear that Chen Hao had to apologize in person. Naturally, Chen Hao didn’t go. Dan Tuo advised Shen Xing not to worry and to focus on returning home with her uncle, warning her to be wary of Mao Pan’s retaliation.
Ai Suo laid out four conditions, which Cai Shu agreed to help Chen Hao negotiate. Shen Jian Dong was determined to take Shen Xing back home and was even considering asking Uncle Ma for help with debts, but Shen Xing was unwilling, leading to a disagreement between them.
Meanwhile, Mao Pan plotted how to use this time to secure control over the routes, planning to have his mother help divert Chen Hao, so he could implement his scheme.
