Episode 16 recap: # Pressured Orders
In Episode 16, Yan Bai Mei sent her subordinates to the Daban Lanqin D district to check out the situation at the pressure order house. Shen Xing tagged along and, to his surprise, discovered a big secret—there was a hidden basement in the pressure order house, just like something out of a movie.
Xia Wenjing noticed Shen Xing's curiosity and warned him not to go down, saying that place wasn't for the faint-hearted. However, Shen Xing, being soft-hearted yet stubborn, took a breath and couldn't resist sneaking a look. What he saw was shocking; Xia Wenjing was right. The basement, though small, had everything: a dark room, a water dungeon, iron cages, a furnace, and a freezer—all of it sent chills down his spine.
As he walked through the basement, Shen Xing spotted a reporter named Xiao Tian in one of the cells. His heart sank; he recalled that Jue Xin Tun had mentioned him before. Just then, Guo Li Min suddenly emerged from the shadows, startling Shen Xing.
Shen Xing thought Guo Li Min had already returned to his home country, but he was still in Sanbianpo and, unexpectedly, had become one of Xia Wenjing's subordinates, specializing in this kind of coercion.
Shen Xing tried pleading with Guo Li Min to back off, but Guo Li Min seemed resolute and didn’t respond. It turned out his mother had recently undergone surgery using the money Shen Xing had sent, but she still hadn't survived. This had completely crushed Guo Li Min's spirit, leaving him with no way back.
Seeing Shen Xing's futile attempts to reason, Xia Wenjing interrupted, saying that Shen Xing's words no longer mattered because ever since Cai Shu had burned Shen Xing's hand, he had fallen out of favor with Cai Shu.
Frustrated, Shen Xing went to plead with Cai Shu to save Xiao Tian. However, Cai Shu told him that Xiao Tian had been caught for secretly filming, which led him to send Xia Wenjing to interrogate him. This news felt like a knife to Shen Xing's heart, and he found himself at a dead end.
At that moment, Tuo rushed over to inform Shen Xing that there might be problems with Chen Hao, and that they needed to unite in Daban. Meanwhile, the number of people unable to pay was increasing, and Jason Li was eager to send people to Xia Wenjing. Yan Bai Mei was also worried, saying that the scrutiny was intense, and they needed to gather at least ten people.
Shen Xing took Jin Cui to work and urged her to quit after finishing this job, but she refused to listen at all.
Later, Tuo and Shen Xing switched jobs—Tuo went to deliver goods while Shen Xing took on the task of collecting debts. When Shen Xing went to the Shiji D district to deliver a contract, he also retrieved some belongings that Guo Li Min had left behind. Among them was a notebook detailing various expenses, ranging from two dollars to five thousand. It was a bitter sight to behold.
Shen Xing delivered the items to the Lanqin D district and asked Xia Wenjing to take them inside for Guo Li Min, vowing never to step foot in that cursed place again. Feeling down, Shen Xing spent the night drinking alone. The next day, Jue Xin Tun called to arrange a meeting. When Shen Xing turned around, he saw Cai Shu watching him from a distance.
Cai Shu and Shen Xing discussed many topics, including the people in Daban and the stories of Dan Tuo and Suo Wen. Though Shen Xing didn’t say much, he was listening intently. When he met Jue Xin Tun the next day, he didn’t mention Xiao Tian or Guo Li Min, only saying he had gotten drunk. However, Jue Xin Tun knew him well; after asking a few more questions, Shen Xing couldn’t hold back and told the truth.
Seeing Shen Xing’s loyalty, Jue Xin Tun said he could go back to apply for a search warrant, but the fastest they could act would be the day after tomorrow. Meanwhile, Yan Bai Mei relayed Jason Li’s message, and Shen Xing replied that Cai Shu was off doing other things.
As they were leaving, Wang An Quan decided to return to Kameng with Rong Jie, who had also assigned him a task. That evening, Shen Xing went to the Lanqin D venue and struck a deal with Xia Wenjing—he would pay a sum of money in exchange for the chance to persuade Guo Li Min.
Taking advantage of an opportune moment, Shen Xing quietly told Xiao Tian that someone would come to rescue him the next day. He then sought out Guo Li Min, only to find that Guo Li Min’s hair was a mess, as if a dog had chewed on it, and he was speaking incoherently. It was clear that he had been utterly broken.
