Episode 6 recap: Han Zi Qing Wants to Form a Legion

In Episode 6, Han Zi Qing and the girl in red were out shopping when they stumbled upon a commotion: a child beggar was being chased and beaten by a woman, apparently for stealing something. The girl in red advised Han Zi Qing not to interfere, but out of kindness, Han Zi Qing stepped in. She pulled out ten taels of silver to help the child escape, but the child took the money and ran off, prompting the girl in red to chase after him.

They followed the child to his home and were shocked to find him alone, taking care of a house full of sick younger siblings. Han Zi Qing understood the child's difficult situation but knew stealing was wrong, so she gave the child a name, "Shi Liang," and decided to take him home with her.

By the time they returned, it was dark, and a servant informed Han Zi Qing that the Fourth Prince had been waiting for her. Annoyed, she muttered, "What does he want? Do I have to feed him?" She then went inside. The Fourth Prince was quite polite, saying he had already eaten and asking for the meal to be cleared away. Han Zi Qing thought, "Fine, if he doesn't want to eat, I'll just make my own!" So she gathered the girl in red and Shi Liang, and they happily enjoyed a hot pot together.

The Fourth Prince, watching them with envy, quietly ordered a meal for himself as well.

The next morning, Han Zi Qing was summoned to change clothes for an audience in the palace. Accompanying the Fourth Prince, she met the King and presented herself gracefully. While the King and the Fourth Prince played chess, Han Zi Qing strolled through the royal garden.

As she walked, the sound of a zither caught her attention. Although she didn’t understand music well, the melody reminded her of the days her mother taught her to play. Just as she was lost in thought, she noticed someone nearby fanning themselves with a familiar fan—one she had seen in the home of Mr. Chen that night. Fortunately, the Fourth Prince appeared just in time to pull her away. Unbeknownst to her, the musician, the "Zither Prince," had seen her and was reminded of his own master.

Before leaving for an errand, the Fourth Prince assigned Han Zi Qing a task: to learn horseback riding and archery, promising to check her progress upon his return. Han Zi Qing was preoccupied with the situation involving the Second Prince, but for now, she focused on her immediate tasks. She skipped her meal and headed straight to the training grounds, only to find that the trainers hardly took her seriously, sending a low-ranking soldier to instruct her, who then dismissed her to the post station.

Undeterred, Han Zi Qing returned that night with the girl in red and Shi Liang to find some street kids, expressing her desire to help them change their fate. She proposed that they climb to the mountain summit and return within a certain time to train them for future independence in the Longyuan Continent. The children rose to the challenge and completed the task, especially one boy who always helped others. Han Zi Qing named him "Gu Xi," as he reminded her of a friend from her real life.

Meanwhile, the Fourth Prince’s watchers had been keeping a close eye on Han Zi Qing. Seeing her recent activities piqued their curiosity, leading them to intensify their surveillance. Those lurking in the shadows initially planned to poison Han Zi Qing but ended up poisoning themselves instead, having forgotten the antidote—a classic case of “stealing a chicken only to lose a rice.”

Not long after, the Fourth Prince returned. When he heard that Han Zi Qing was teaching herself to ride at the post station, rather than reprimanding her, he encouraged her to mount a horse, and they galloped across the grasslands together, feeling exhilarated!
