Episode 15 recap: Zhang Ze Zhong and Du Man Tang Go to the Police Station
In Episode 15, Zhang Ze Zhong hurriedly had Lao Ai and his wife change into the doctor’s and nurse’s uniforms he borrowed. Lao Ai’s wife applied white makeup on Zhang Ze Zhong's face, making him look pale and unwell. Just as they finished, Principal Niu arrived with two other principals, asking Zhang Ze Zhong when this all happened.
Zhang Ze Zhong replied that he had left the school not long ago. Principal Niu said that if they had known it would turn out this way, they wouldn’t have transferred him. Zhang Ze Zhong informed Principal Niu that the doctor and nurse behind him were his attending physician and nurse. Principal Niu insisted that Lao Ai must do everything possible to help their colleague. He then asked where Zhang You Ting was, to which Zhang Ze Zhong explained that she was out raising funds for him due to his illness.
Principal Niu reassured him not to worry, as the school was also mobilizing everyone to donate, and the first batch of funds was on its way. Upon hearing this, Lao Ai immediately asked how much money they had raised. Principal Niu replied that it was enough to cover Zhang Ze Zhong's medical expenses, and if it wasn’t, they would find a way. Zhang Ze Zhong urged Principal Niu and the others to leave quickly, mentioning that the hospital wasn’t a good place and that they could just transfer the money to his account later.
As the three principals stepped outside, Principal Ma questioned if he found the situation a bit strange. Principal Niu advised him not to speculate about others. The female principal remarked that the doctor and nurse seemed odd; despite Zhang Ze Zhong’s condition, they were joking around without a care.
When Zhang Ze Zhong returned home, he found Zhang You Ting and Du Li waiting for him. He informed them that he had gathered enough money for their wedding and encouraged them to travel wherever they wanted. Feeling exhausted, he stated he was going to take a nap. Just as he turned around, he saw Du Li suddenly kneeling on the floor. He quickly urged her to get up. Du Li confessed she wasn’t pregnant and that she hadn’t been dating Zhang You Ting; she had made everything up to prevent her parents from divorcing.
Zhang Ze Zhong was furious, feeling that Du Li and Zhang You Ting shouldn’t have treated him this way. He had arranged the best wedding and postpartum care for them and even pretended to be sick to raise funds. Just as he finished speaking, he opened the door to see the female principal and some students visiting him; they had heard everything he said.
The news of Zhang Ze Zhong’s deceitful fundraising had spread, with posters in the alley condemning his unethical behavior. As he stepped outside, neighbors immediately began to mock him, and he insisted that it was all Du Li's deception.
Du Man Tang overheard the conversation and was unwilling to let Zhang Ze Zhong talk about his daughter, leading to a heated argument between the two in the alley. Du Man Tang arranged to meet him that night at Houhai. Zhang You Ting tried to stop Zhang Ze Zhong from going, and Du Li admitted it was her fault and insisted Du Man Tang shouldn't go either. However, both men ignored them and went to Houhai.
Zhang Ze Zhong handed Du Man Tang a brick, urging him to hit himself on the head with it. Du Man Tang retorted that he wasn’t afraid, but Zhang Ze Zhong insisted he listen to him first. Zhang Ze Zhong declared that if the couple wanted a divorce, they should go ahead, but they shouldn’t let Zhang You Ting take the blame. He pointed out that Wang Xiao Qing had selflessly acted as a caretaker for the Du family all these years, and if he were Wang Xiao Qing, he would indeed divorce Du Man Tang.
Just as Du Man Tang was about to strike Zhang Ze Zhong, the police arrived. It turned out that Zhang Ze Zhong had called the police in advance, and both men were taken to the police station. They continued to argue in a holding room, and Zhang Ze Zhong asked Du Man Tang if he would be happy if the rumors about their children were true. Du Man Tang was left speechless.
Zhang Ze Zhong then mentioned that there was a place outside the police station that served authentic "bao du" (a type of food) and suggested they eat there after they were released. Du Man Tang scoffed, questioning how he could think about food at a time like this.
The police contacted people from Kua Gu Zhi Alley, and Aunt Zhang arrived with Lao Ai, Fatty, Du Li, and Zhang You Ting at the police station. They explained the situation to the police and informed them about Du Man Tang's workplace. Aunt Zhang felt it was unnecessary to notify the workplace, but the police insisted it was part of their procedure.
As Zhang Ze Zhong and Du Man Tang emerged from the station, they saw Xiao Gao from the hotel waiting at the entrance, and Du Man Tang realized he had lost his job. The two started bickering again, but when Du Man Tang turned and saw Zhang You Ting and Du Li, he instantly dropped the argument.
