Episode 18 recap: Du Man Tang Studies Coffee at Home

After resigning from Mr. Liu's company, Du Man Tang's departure caught Zhang Ze Zhong's attention, and he quickly volunteered for the high-paying position. Meanwhile, Wang Xiao Qing was busy renovating her guesthouse when a foreigner, armed with a camera, started taking pictures in the alley. As he reached the front of the guesthouse, he spotted Wang Xiao Qing working and decided to capture the moment.

The foreigner approached and offered to help Wang Xiao Qing. She hesitated, feeling shy about accepting help, but he suggested that once the guesthouse opened, she could let him stay for a few days for free. Wang Xiao Qing agreed, and the foreigner promptly took off his jacket and joined in the work. At that moment, Su Su, who had come to visit Wang Xiao Qing, noticed the foreigner and was immediately drawn to him.

Su Su told Wang Xiao Qing she would come to help out the next day, and the foreigner introduced himself as Pierre, expressing surprise at learning Wang Xiao Qing's name. Su Su instantly liked Pierre and asked Wang Xiao Qing to give them a bit of privacy.

Wang Xiao Qing said it depended on how they behaved, just as Pierre arrived again. He mentioned that the light was perfect at that moment and began taking more photos. Once the guesthouse was ready, Wang Xiao Qing, Su Su, and Pierre chatted on the rooftop, where Pierre shared stories about many places he had visited.

Inspired by Pierre's stories, Wang Xiao Qing decided to install a swing in the guesthouse. Later, Pierre visited Du Man Tang's yard and admired its beauty, likening it to a café. Du Man Tang clarified that it wasn't a café, but he could offer him a cup of coffee.

In the bathhouse, Su Su praised Pierre's impressive skills, mentioning that he had even filmed large airplanes and warships. Upon hearing "warship," Aunt Zhang immediately perked up with curiosity. The next morning, Aunt Zhang followed Pierre to see what he was up to and ran into Lao Ai just as he was leaving the restroom. Aunt Zhang urged Lao Ai to check on Pierre, to which Lao Ai jokingly replied, "What else would he be doing in the restroom?"

Just then, a group of reporters arrived, asking Aunt Zhang if she knew Zhang Ze Zhong, as they were there to interview him.

Aunt Zhang brought the reporters to Zhang Ze Zhong's home and offered suggestions on how to conduct the interview. She mentioned that she was very familiar with the process, having been interviewed many times before.

The reporters began filming Zhang Ze Zhong's daily life in the alley and asked him how he felt about being called "Brother Sacrifice" by netizens. Zhang Ze Zhong replied that "Uncle Sacrifice" would be more appropriate. Just as the interview was underway, Mr. Liu's driver arrived to pick up Zhang Ze Zhong. He expressed a desire to chat longer but noted that he had to leave with his driver.

Upon hearing that he had a driver, the reporters quickly followed Zhang Ze Zhong with their cameras. Meanwhile, Du Man Tang was at home making coffee when the delivery man arrived with a package. Du Man Tang offered him a taste of his coffee, but the delivery man, who knew nothing about coffee, found it too bitter. Du Man Tang thought he had no taste and told him to hurry up and leave.

Du Man Tang then brewed another cup of coffee for an elderly man and asked if he liked it. The elderly man bluntly replied that it was terrible. Du Man Tang proceeded to share his coffee with people in the alley and visited Wang Xiao Qing’s guesthouse to let them try it as well.

Pierre happened to be there, and Du Man Tang inquired about his thoughts on the coffee. Pierre mentioned he had a secret weapon. After Du Man Tang left, Wang Xiao Qing asked Pierre if his coffee was any good and if it was reliable. Pierre assured her that he could make it reliable.

Since hearing that Pierre had filmed warships, Aunt Zhang had been following him around. She trailed him to Du Man Tang's house, where she asked Pierre what he thought of China. Pierre replied that some things were not great. Aunt Zhang insisted that everything was good in China because of its vast resources. She also told Pierre a saying: "When friends come, offer fine wine; when enemies arrive, greet them with shotguns." Pierre understood the meaning and mentioned he had to leave for an errand.

Aunt Zhang continued to follow Pierre. After a few days, she found Du Man Tang and asked him to join her in catching Pierre in the act, claiming she had seen them meeting secretly.
