Episode 20 recap: Du Man Tang is Moving into the Guesthouse
In Episode 20, Du Man Tang asks Pierre about the situation with Su Su, referring to the girl. Meanwhile, Pierre is preoccupied with thoughts of Wang Xiao Qing but self-deprecatingly claims she has no interest in him. Du Man Tang jokes that Wang Xiao Qing is actually very much into him, which brightens Pierre's mood.
On the other hand, Wang Xiao Qing enjoys a long, relaxing bath in her guesthouse, declaring it more comfortable than her own home. Du Li teases her about not returning home often despite having one. Wang Xiao Qing brushes it off, but then Du Li becomes concerned about the business; if every guest takes two-hour baths like Wang Xiao Qing, how will they manage costs? Wang Xiao Qing doubts it will be that extreme, but when Du Li asks about pricing, she shakes her head in disbelief at the amount Wang Xiao Qing suggests, saying it wouldn’t even cover a year’s expenses.
Du Li proposes hiring a professional consultant, but Wang Xiao Qing worries about tight finances. Du Li reminds her that they have a ready-made "expert" in Du Man Tang, who used to work in a big hotel. Wang Xiao Qing immediately insists on inviting Du Man Tang to dinner, but he laughs it off, saying they can eat at home just as well.
As they bicker, Du Li quickly shoves some lamb into Wang Xiao Qing's mouth and offers a piece to Du Man Tang as well. Just as the food arrives, Du Li’s phone rings—it's Zhang You Ting calling, and she suddenly remembers she stood her up.
Taking advantage of the moment, Du Man Tang pulls out the hotel accounting suggestions he stayed up late to write, earning praise from Du Li for his dedication. He proposes to stay at the guesthouse as a guest for a few days to provide more accurate advice, and Du Li happily agrees.
When discussing a family meeting, Du Man Tang recalls the promise he made with Wang Xiao Qing to travel across the country together. Meanwhile, he busily prepares for his guesthouse experience, even asking Du Li to bring slippers from Wang Xiao Qing, emphasizing the importance of attentive service.
Elsewhere, Zhang Ze Zhong loses his job due to Mr. Liu's issues and cannot return to school, so he considers staying with Teacher Guan as an assistant. Teacher Guan agrees but only gives him a calligraphy piece to help him understand the deeper meaning of the character "ren" (人). Confused, Zhang Ze Zhong leaves and runs into Mrs. Liu, who is distressed over her divorce and wants to use a fake painting to tarnish Mr. Liu's reputation. Initially hesitant, Zhang Ze Zhong is swayed by the generous pay.
Du Li encourages Du Man Tang to visit Wang Xiao Qing, and on the way, he unexpectedly meets Guo Rong, who thanks him for his help and invites him to try some good coffee. Wang Xiao Qing spots them and quietly follows to the hotel, where she runs into Mr. Jiang, leading to a coffee moment for all four.
This series of chance encounters and plans creates ripples in everyone’s lives, as emotional entanglements and career challenges quietly unfold in this corner of the city.
