Episode 27 recap: Du Mantang Exposed Online
In Episode 27, Zhang Ze Zhong plans to bring Guan Xi to meet Mrs. Liu. Guan Xi says he needs to go to the restroom. Zhang Ze Zhong lets him go, but when Guan Xi returns, he trips and falls. Zhang Ze Zhong quickly rushes to help him, but Guan Xi reassures him that he’s fine and not hurt.
This reminds Zhang Ze Zhong of when his son, Zhang You Ting, used to say the same thing to him when he was little. Immediately, Zhang Ze Zhong takes Guan Xi away. Mrs. Liu threatens Zhang Ze Zhong with a document in her hand, claiming it’s Zhang You Ting's employment contract. Zhang Ze Zhong tells her that his son is capable enough to find a job on his own.
As he leaves with Guan Xi, Zhang Ze Zhong tells Mrs. Liu that one should not engage in unethical behavior. He suggests that if she truly doesn’t want to divorce Mr. Liu, she should have an honest conversation with him. He also returns all the money he made from the fake paintings to Mrs. Liu.
Later, Zhang Ze Zhong goes to a restaurant where he overhears a conversation in a private room. It’s Du Man Tang and a few others chatting. One person brags about how he managed to kidnap himself to trick his brother into selling their house. Du Man Tang expresses that if he weren’t in debt for over a hundred thousand, he wouldn’t have resorted to such actions. He feels guilty for his elderly father after the old man fell.
Hearing this, Zhang Ze Zhong returns to the alley and is pulled aside by Aunt Zhang for an interview. Du Man Tang takes his father to a bathhouse. The attendant notices that the old man doesn’t seem as lively as he used to. Du Man Tang explains that his father fell a couple of days ago, to which the attendant remarks that they shouldn’t let him fall again. Du Man Tang asks not to mention Du Man Yi, prompting the attendant to inquire whether there’s been a conflict between them.
Du Man Tang stays silent, and the attendant expresses confusion over why people like them with property and land still have conflicts. Du Man Tang then asks about the attendant's hand, and the attendant shares that when he first arrived in Beijing, he was reckless, but after deciding to turn his life around, he injured his hand.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ze Zhong also arrives at the bathhouse. He spots Du Man Tang and informs him about the deceitful actions of Du Man Yi. Furious, Du Man Tang returns home and makes Du Man Yi kneel before a portrait of their late mother to reflect on his actions.
Zhang Ze Zhong visits the hospital and chats with Du Li for a while. He asks Du Li what she thinks of Zhang You Ting. Du Li asks in what aspect, and Zhang Ze Zhong specifies his work abilities. Du Li confidently replies that he’s certainly very capable.
As Zhang Ze Zhong observes how Du Li takes care of Zhang You Ting, he smiles with appreciation. Soon after, he receives a call from Mr. Guan, who asks him to come by. Mr. Guan expresses his gratitude for what Zhang Ze Zhong has done, mentioning that he has heard from Guan Xi about their conversations. Zhang Ze Zhong encourages him to talk more with Guan Xi.
Guan Xi tells Zhang Ze Zhong that Mr. Guan has indeed been speaking with him more often and even secretly gave him chocolate, which made the child very happy. Mr. Guan admits that he feels quite nervous interacting with Guan Xi, but he truly likes the boy.
Zhang Ze Zhong advises Mr. Guan to communicate more with the child, sharing that he regrets not talking more with Zhang You Ting back when he was younger, which contributed to his introverted personality.
Meanwhile, in a coffee shop, Du Man Tang encounters two tour guides who ask him to refill their coffee. The two discuss how to deceive elderly tourists. Du Man Tang tells them that such behavior is unethical and asks if they are trying to embarrass the people of Beijing. The two dismiss his concerns, telling him to mind his own business.
Feeling provoked, Du Man Tang reprimands them, and one of them even records a video of the confrontation. He ultimately forces the two out of the coffee shop. Zhang Ze Zhong gathers everyone together and asks Su Su to explain how Zhang You Ting got injured.
Su Su insists that she has already apologized and asks Zhang Ze Zhong not to blame her any further. Zhang Ze Zhong clarifies that he’s not blaming her but simply wants her to share the story. He questions why Zhang You Ting, who acted bravely, should be dismissed and urges everyone to join him in writing a letter demanding an explanation for Zhang You Ting. Everyone agrees.
While Du Man Tang and Wang Xiao Qing are listening to Aunt Zhang speak, a chubby guy approaches Du Man Tang with his phone, showing him that what he said has been maliciously edited and posted online by the two tour guides.
