Episode 3 recap: # Du Man Tang Accidentally Finds Liu Xing Yu
In Episode 3, when Wang Xiao Qing arrives at the hotel, the wheels of her suitcase break down. She meets a helpful guy who offers to assist her, but she laughs and shakes her head, pointing to the screw under her shoe, saying she can handle it herself. Just then, a staff member comes over to check her in, so she hurriedly follows.
Meanwhile, Du Man Tang is trying to organize a gathering in the alley, but only Lao Ai shows up. Lao Ai brings a large thermos, planning to take home leftovers, and grumbles that Du Man Tang is doing a poor job compared to Zhang Ze Zhong. It turns out Du Man Tang wants to avoid turning the alley into a variety show, but the director blamed him for it, while Zhang Ze Zhong took it upon himself to resolve the issue.
Lao Ai also mentions Wang Xiao Qing, saying she stood up for Du Man Tang and took on more responsibility than he did. This makes Du Man Tang realize why Wang Xiao Qing couldn’t get up for work that day. As Lao Ai leaves with his food container, the chubby guy quickly reassures Du Man Tang not to take it too seriously.
On the director's side, they are busy setting up the location when Chang Jie rushes in, saying a scene needs to be reshot. The director initially wants to push it off, claiming the actors are resting, but Chang Jie’s urgency prompts him to go call them. Du Man Tang approaches the director, wanting to know why they aren’t filming in the alley to provide an explanation, but the director brushes him off, leaving him waiting at the hotel entrance.
Unexpectedly, he is approached by a drunken Liu Xing Yu, who wants to borrow a phone but is faced with exorbitant charges. Unable to watch this, Du Man Tang pulls out his phone, but before Liu Xing Yu can even dial, he passes out.
Du Man Tang rushes him to the hospital, where he unexpectedly runs into Zhang Ze Zhong. Upon recognizing the star Liu Xing Yu, Zhang Ze Zhong praises Du Man Tang for doing something significant. When Liu Xing Yu wakes up, he clings to Zhang Ze Zhong’s hand and complains about being hungry. They quickly take him to the chubby guy’s restaurant for a hearty meal. After eating, Zhang Ze Zhong contacts Mr. Sun to arrange for Liu Xing Yu to make an appearance at Mr. Sun’s opening event to earn some money, but Du Man Tang firmly opposes it, insisting on protecting Liu Xing Yu.
Liu Xing Yu realizes he can’t reach anyone by phone and learns it’s Friday; he was supposed to meet his childhood friend on Saturday. Zhang Ze Zhong suggests Liu Xing Yu stay at his place, but Du Man Tang insists he should stay with him. Once at Du's home, Liu Xing Yu starts playing with Du Li’s child, instantly lightening the atmosphere.
After hearing Du Man Tang's explanation, Du Li worries about the director showing up and the potential backlash afterward. Du Man Tang decides to inform the director, but just as he makes the call, the phone gets drenched. He quickly explains the situation to the neighbors, asking them to let Liu Xing Yu explain himself.
However, when he returns home, he discovers both Liu Xing Yu and the old man are missing, leaving him frantic and prompting a quiet search for Liu Xing Yu to begin.
