Episode 31 recap: Mr. Jiang's Trouble Leads Him to Wang Xiao Qing

In Episode 31, on the way back from trying on wedding dresses, Wang Xiao Qing tells Du Li that they will make decisions together in their future life. For minor matters, they will follow her lead, but for major issues, they will listen to Zhang You Ting. When Du Li asks what counts as a major issue, Wang Xiao Qing replies that anything not related to her is considered major.

Du Man Tang agrees, saying they have lived this way for years, with Wang Xiao Qing always being the one making the decisions. Just as they arrive back at Wang Xiao Qing's guesthouse, they find Mr. Jiang waiting at the door. He explains that his business has failed and asks if he can stay with her for a couple of days.

Wang Xiao Qing readily agrees, but Du Man Tang suggests that Zhang You Ting go buy some cigarettes. Wang Xiao Qing objects, saying there's no need for cigarettes and urges Mr. Jiang to come inside. She prepares a bowl of noodles for him and inquires about his situation.

Mr. Jiang explains that his company has dissolved and he is now considered a dishonest executor. All his funds have been frozen, and he doesn’t want to reach out to business associates for help. Wang Xiao Qing reassures him that it’s okay and that he can stay here comfortably.

As Du Man Tang is sitting at home, Wang Xiao Qing returns and brings Mr. Jiang two shirts that Du Man Tang owns. Du Man Tang protests that he still needs to wear them, to which Wang Xiao Qing responds that he hasn’t worn them often anyway. After preparing Mr. Jiang's room, Wang Xiao Qing is about to leave when Du Li asks if she needs help. Wang Xiao Qing tells her not to interfere, and Du Li informs Mr. Jiang to let them know if he needs anything.

Meanwhile, Du Man Tang comes back with a plate of dumplings, excitedly telling Du Li that he’s about to get rich and settle his debts. Du Man Tang warns him not to get into trouble. Unwilling to listen, Du Man Tang snatches the dumplings and heads off to Wang Xiao Qing’s place. However, he stops to think and then returns to take the dumplings from Du Man Tang.

When he arrives at Wang Xiao Qing's guesthouse, he says he’s delivering dumplings to Mr. Jiang. Wang Xiao Qing tells him to stop causing trouble since the guest is already asleep, and questions the idea of delivering dumplings. Du Man Tang insists that they are delicious and argues that she can’t possibly know if the guest is sleeping.

Du Man Tang stepped out and ran into Su Su, who was dressed beautifully. He asked her what she was up to. Su Su inquired if the guest inside was the one who sent flowers to Wang Xiao Qing. She mentioned she wanted to see what he looked like. Du Man Tang replied that there was nothing to see; he was down on his luck and looked the part.

Just a few steps later, he heard some commotion from the old courtyard. When he went over to investigate, he found Lao Fang digging for treasures with two other people. They mentioned something about unearthing Yuan dynasty blue-and-white porcelain. After listening for a while, Du Man Tang left.

In the alley, the neighborhood aunties were gossiping about Mr. Jiang, who was staying at Wang Xiao Qing's guesthouse, saying he was much more impressive than Du Man Tang. Du Man Tang arranged to meet Lao Fang at a restaurant known for its pig intestines. He warned Lao Fang that trafficking in cultural relics was illegal and advised him to turn himself in before the police came looking for him, especially since the porcelain could be worth billions.

Lao Fang asked if Du Man Tang knew it was worth that much and challenged him to guess how much he sold it for. Lao Fang claimed he sold it for five thousand, explaining that he had buried the porcelain himself and led them to dig it up, and they believed him. He told Du Man Tang that there was more buried in the courtyard and encouraged him to dig it up.

Du Man Tang consulted an expert, who said the old courtyard had no research value. However, Du Man Tang felt it was valuable to the local children who had grown up there for generations. Meanwhile, Du Li and Zhang You Ting received their wedding photos, and Du Man Tang showed them to Old Master Du.

Du Man Tang remarked that while Zhang You Ting was a good girl, her family wasn’t up to much. He pointed out that it was ridiculous they didn’t offer a bride price. Du Man Tang said it was a modern age; why would they still expect a bride price?

When Wang Xiao Qing's friends visited her guesthouse and saw Mr. Jiang, they assumed he was her new boyfriend and praised his remarkable demeanor. Du Man Tang warned that while the children were good kids, Zhang Ze Zhong was not a decent person. He mentioned that Zhang Ze Zhong was looking to make over two hundred thousand and wanted a bride price of fifty thousand. Du Man Tang asked how he knew that, and Lao Fang, feeling guilty, hurried away.
