Episode 6 recap: # Lao Ai's Funeral Troubles Neighbors
In Episode 6, Lao Ai's father has passed away, and his cries echo throughout the alley, keeping the neighbors awake at night. Frustrated, Du Li considers confronting him, but Wang Xiao Qing advises her to avoid the situation and suggests they go to her grandmother's house for a while. While scrolling through her phone, Du Li stumbles upon a video of a chubby guy causing trouble at a convenience store, and she quickly shares it with Wang Xiao Qing. They both lament how chaotic life has become.
Later that night, Wang Xiao Qing and Du Man Tang are in a fight. While lying in bed, Du Man Tang tries to ease the tension with some physical affection, but Wang Xiao Qing pushes him away, accidentally hitting the wall. Annoyed, she says, "It's time to sleep," and the atmosphere becomes even more strained.
The next morning, Du Man Tang reports to the police that Lao Ai's funeral arrangements are excessively loud and disrupting the neighborhood. While the police express understanding, they also urge him to consider the grieving family's pain. Meanwhile, Wang Xiao Qing prepares to put down a deposit for a new apartment and tries to call Du Man Tang for confirmation, only to find him busy talking to the police.
On another front, Zhang Ze Zhong receives a summons from the school principal and rushes over. On the way, he runs into Aunt Zhang, who drags him to the community center, claiming there's a new job opportunity. At the school, he expects an important discussion, but the principal merely chats and asks his opinion about the library's security job. Zhang Ze Zhong enthusiastically shares his love for the position, only to be told that the school will soon implement an automated borrowing system, significantly reducing staffing needs. Feeling embarrassed, he leaves hurriedly.
During a district meeting, Du Man Tang unexpectedly encounters his former student, Xiao Bian, who turns out to be the meeting's host. After the meeting, he attempts to speak with Lao Ai but is ignored. Instead, Lao Ai eagerly invites Zhang Ze Zhong for a chat, leaving Du Man Tang feeling a bit left out.
Du Li confides in her friend Zhang You Ting about the cold war between her parents and asks for advice. Zhang You Ting suggests she mimic Du Man Tang's past efforts to win back Wang Xiao Qing's favor to help mend her family relationships. Inspired, Du Man Tang decides to take action by going to the market to buy ingredients for a nice meal for Wang Xiao Qing. Coincidentally, he runs into the chubby guy, who jokingly reveals a "secret": Zhang Ze Zhong can handle Lao Ai.
Reluctantly, but for the sake of family harmony, Du Man Tang seeks out Zhang Ze Zhong. They reminisce about their past friendship, and Zhang Ze Zhong agrees to help mediate the situation. During dinner, Wang Xiao Qing tries several times to bring up the apartment purchase but never finds the right moment.
The atmosphere at home is delicate and complicated, with everyone harboring their own concerns, all trying to find a sliver of balance and peace amid the chaos of life.
