Episode 11 recap: Wu Xie Goes to Find the Key

In Episode 11, Wang Jinyuan and Zhang Qi Ling, two friends, discuss a mysterious guy they both know while pondering life's deeper meanings. Zhang Qi Ling reflects on his journey, noting how he often sacrifices himself for others. He carries a deep love in his heart but struggles with memory, always trying to reclaim what he's lost, feeling as if he's wandering aimlessly.

Despite this, he remains determined to pursue his goals. Wang Jinyuan, noticing Zhang Qi Ling's contemplative mood, playfully asks, “What do you think Wu Xie sees when he looks at you?” Zhang Qi Ling admits he hadn’t thought about it, eventually replying, “Maybe he sees how old I’ve become.” Wang Jinyuan chuckles at this profound answer and gifts Wu Xie a mysterious scroll filled with clues to find the key.

A few days later, Wang Jinyuan passes away, and according to family tradition, he must be cremated. Wu Xie and Zhang Haike accompany him on his final journey, feeling a mix of emotions. After the funeral, Wu Xie takes out the scroll, prompting Zhang Haike to comment that Wang Jinyuan had several scrolls that now seem like distractions, while this one is genuine and possibly crafted by Zhang Qi Ling.

With the map in hand, Wu Xie, Zhang Haixing, and the Fatty discuss their adventure plans. As they approach their goal, the dangers increase. Zhang Haike thoughtfully prepares farewell cards for Wu Xie and Fatty. Typically lighthearted, Fatty becomes serious, carefully writing his message.

They arrive in Niles, where they learn Zhang Qi Ling hid another key there. The place is chaotic, filled with trash, and overrun by rats and insects. Zhang Haike leads them into the sewers, where offerings are scattered around. The Niles people seem to bury their dead here, believing it helps them escape hell's torments. The space is so tight that they must crawl, and Zhang Haike constantly warns Fatty to watch his step.

In the sewer, Wu Xie finds a mark left by Zhang Qi Ling, who would leave signs in every location to avoid forgetting. These marks give Wu Xie a sense of warmth and safety. As they move forward, the garbage lessens, and statues appear, creating a tense atmosphere.

Suddenly, Wu Xie hears a noise and turns to see an empty plastic bucket rolling by, with no one around. He reassures everyone that it’s probably just the wind. They continue with their torches, but some creepy creatures shift in the shadows. Wu Xie notices numerous warnings from Zhang's family on the walls about the dangers ahead. Zhang Haike finds it odd, as everything seems normal.

Wu Xie’s keen eyes catch a gap in the wall resembling something from the scroll; the key is likely hidden there. They begin to search carefully. Meanwhile, in a hospital, Zhang Nian prepares for surgery but abruptly receives a photo from Wu Xie. He hands off the scalpel to a colleague and rushes out, having waited long for this moment. He seeks out Zhang Jiuri, saying it’s time for revenge and asking if he wants to join.

Zhang Jiuri glances at the photo, puts on his work hat, and decides to step back from past grievances. Back in the sewers, Wu Xie and his group still haven’t found the key, but everything around them grows increasingly bizarre, with puppets dressed in costumes lining the alley. Zhang Haixing notes that the king loved theater, and perhaps people created these puppets to keep him entertained even in death.

As they venture further, Fatty notices the puppets seem to appear repeatedly, sending chills down their spines. Could these puppets be moving on their own?
