Episode 12 recap: Wu Xie Escapes the Moving Puppets

In Episode 12, Zhang Hai Ke immediately took the lead to scout ahead and returned to inform the group that everything was clear, but he reminded Wu Xie and Fatty to be careful. As the group navigated through the puppets, they felt like they were going in circles. Wu Xie cleverly took out some reflective tape from his backpack and marked the path they traveled.

After several rounds of wandering, they ended up back at the starting point. Zhang Hai Xing noticed that the positions of the puppets had changed, causing Wu Xie to wonder if they had inadvertently triggered a mechanism that made the puppets move on their own. They couldn't stay trapped there forever, so Wu Xie examined the layout closely and devised a plan to tie the marked path with thin string.

Following the compass's direction, they made another large loop, only to find themselves back at the starting point again, this time with the puppets in different positions. Everyone began to feel uneasy; the compass was functioning well, and the magnetic field seemed fine—so why couldn't they escape? Wu Xie decided to draw the route they had taken on paper and realized there were still four exits they hadn't tried.

Fatty, concerned for everyone's stamina, volunteered to scout ahead to see if he could find an exit. As Wu Xie moved forward, he suddenly heard a noise behind him and turned around in shock to see a giant puppet gnawing on the head of a smaller puppet—it looked so lifelike! Panicking, Wu Xie quickly turned back, afraid of being noticed by the giant puppet.

Throughout the journey, Wu Xie felt like someone was following him, so he poured some oil behind him. Before long, the giant puppet indeed followed him. Wu Xie steadied himself and warned it to stay back, but the puppet advanced unsteadily. In a moment of desperation, Wu Xie ignited the oil, and the puppet was engulfed in flames, burning horrifically. To make matters worse, several red poisonous snakes emerged from the fire, turning to ash.

Fatty, worried about Wu Xie’s prolonged absence, chased after him and ended up lost as well. Wu Xie instructed Fatty to keep talking so he could follow the sound. Eventually, they reunited, with Fatty's voice hoarse from shouting.

Rejoining Zhang Hai Xing and the others, they continued their search for the key. They came across an object resembling a lamp. Fatty, finding it too dim, lit it. To their surprise, it contained oil, and as the flame flickered, shadows from a shadow puppet show appeared inside the lantern, projecting a "movie" on the wall about the King of Kumu and a snake.

For safety, they decided to wear the puppets' costumes, and this strategy worked—they were no longer pursued by the puppets. Fatty cleverly found a way to turn the winding paths into a straight line, and they finally escaped the maze.

However, darkness loomed ahead. Zhang Hai Ke worried that outsiders had entered the cave, so he instructed Zhang Hai Xing to stay behind and guard while the three of them continued searching for the key. Zhang Hai Xing set up traps with impressive speed, leaving Fatty in awe. He threw a small stone to test the traps, and as soon as it touched a thin wire, it shattered, making Fatty cautious of everyone. Thus, he followed Wu Xie and Zhang Hai Ke, continuing their journey into the unknown.
