Episode 15 recap: Wu Xie Discovers Seven Headless Corpses
In Episode 15, Wu Xie cautiously makes his way forward and finally spots the mysterious "fairy box" mentioned by his predecessors, which turns out to be a series of concealed pits. He takes each step carefully until he notices a particularly large pit in the center, with a key stuck in it. Wu Xie understands the significance of this key—it’s the last one. Just as he reaches for it, gunshots ring out behind him, startling him.
Moments later, a shell explodes nearby, and after the deafening blast, Wu Xie loses consciousness.
When he finally wakes up, he feels groggy and is flooded with images of Fatty urgently calling his name and scenes of Westerners bursting in with explosives. He bolts upright and grabs a nurse next to him, asking about Fatty’s condition.
Surrounded by unfamiliar faces, Zhang Hai Ke approaches and informs him that it was thanks to that last key that Wu Xie, Zhang Hai Xing, and Fatty are still alive. The Westerners have already taken the key to the Snow Mountain, and Zhang Hai Ke has abandoned his original plan, no longer focusing on dealing with the Night King.
Wu Xie is anxious, spending each day waiting outside the hospital room for Fatty to wake up. He pesters the doctors, who are getting frustrated and can’t give him a definite answer. Wu Xie feels a mix of emotions, realizing he can’t let Fatty suffer in vain. His initial plan to take Fatty home shifts; he decides to ask Zhang Hai Ke for help and confront the Night King himself on Snow Mountain!
One night, Wu Xie goes to Fatty’s room to say goodbye, but suddenly the lights go out, and the floor starts shaking, as if he’s falling into another world.
In a daze, he sees Zhang Qi Ling, who looks at him approvingly and hands him a key. Startled, Wu Xie wakes up to find himself in a secret room, actually holding a key. Comparing it with the one in his backpack, he realizes these two can fit together! He wonders if the illusion of the hexagonal bell was too vivid.
As he moves forward, he encounters a pile of strange rocks and stumbles upon seven headless corpses, leaving him puzzled about their significance. Remembering the seven heads Zhang Hai Ke showed him during his test— which he thought were fake—he realizes this is clearly a test from Zhang Qi Ling! Those who fail must lose their heads. Fortunately, he’s strong-willed enough to avoid that fate.
While he's contemplating this, Fatty appears, and Wu Xie suddenly understands that everything in the hospital was just a dream.
Furious, Wu Xie confronts Zhang Hai Ke, demanding to know what’s going on with these seven corpses. Zhang Hai Ke looks just as confused and insists he has no idea, swearing he didn’t use Wu Xie.
Wu Xie isn’t satisfied with this answer and threatens Zhang Hai Ke with explosives, demanding the truth. Left with no choice, Zhang Hai Ke reluctantly reveals the story about Zhang Nian and Zhang Jiu Ri. It turns out Zhang Nian also wanted something from the Night King, but he sought immortality. This led to a confrontation with Zhang Qi Ling, resulting in an explosion in the lab and the loss of his wife. Since then, he’s been at odds with Zhang Qi Ling.
