Episode 18 recap: The Zhang Family Unites to Help Wu Xie Save Lives
In Episode 18, Wu Xie remembers Zhang Hai Ke's words, realizing that he can only be accepted by the Zhang family if he acquires the mysterious item. Determined, he returns to Niles and steps into the secret chamber marked by the Zhang family’s symbols. These marks silently testify to the family's frequent presence in this place, while the charred remnants suggest it has endured a fire.
The complex signals on the walls reveal multiple dangers, but Wu Xie has no choice but to move forward, as someone is waiting for his help. Just as he touches an ancient jar, flames erupt, seemingly ready to consume everything. He forces himself to stay calm, recognizing that this might be an illusion. Ignoring the danger, he charges into the fire, feeling the heat singe his face, the pain momentarily distracting him.
When the flames finally recede, the jar has vanished. Attempting again, he faces the same scene, with the jar still out of reach. In the chaos and confusion, Wu Xie feels a force pulling at his feet—an illusion or reality? He cannot tell, but he knows he must obtain the jar to meet the Zhang family. This time, filled with resolve, he plunges into the flames, undeterred by the figures trying to stop him.
When he awakens, he finds himself in an unfamiliar place, the jar finally in his grasp. Soon after, he meets the former leader of Zhang Qi Ling. The leader expresses no regrets about past decisions, believing that sacrificing Zhang Qi Ling for the freedom and growth of many was worth it. He teaches Wu Xie how to summon the Zhang family using specific fireworks signals. A response would mean united support from the Zhang family; no response would indicate danger ahead.
After careful thought, Wu Xie decides to take the risk. Wearing Zhang Qi Ling's human mask, he climbs to the mountaintop and ignites the fireworks that symbolize hope. The fireworks explode, and the sky lights up—this is the Zhang family's response, a beacon of light for Wu Xie. Indeed, Zhang family members from all directions quickly assemble, heading toward their shared goal.
Meanwhile, Zhang Nian and Zhang Jiu Ri notice this unusual activity. Zhang Nian feels apprehensive towards the familiar shadow, Zhang Qi Ling, who he has faced many times without success. Despite his doubts, he decides to use Zhang Jiu Ri to test the waters. Zhang Jiu Ri, full of anticipation and carefully selecting his weapons, remains unaware of Zhang Nian's hidden agenda.
When Zhang Jiu Ri confronts Wu Xie, Wu Xie has already set a trap, using the hexagonal bell's hallucinogenic powder to ensnare him. Just as victory seems imminent, Zhang Jiu Ri notices something wrong with his sword—explosives planted by Zhang Nian.
It’s too late. Amidst the explosion, Zhang Jiu Ri falls, gravely injured. Zhang Nian emerges from the shadows, smugly believing he is in control. However, Wu Xie refuses to give up; he shakes the hexagonal bell again, plunging Zhang Nian into an illusion. The battle is far from over, and Wu Xie steadfastly moves toward his goal, no matter how arduous the path ahead may be.
