Episode 23 recap: The Fat Guy Blasted Open the Bronze Door

In Episode 23, the entrance was securely blocked, preventing the Night King from coming through for the time being. The Denasians began to tally their casualties, and when they saw the results, their hearts sank; the number of dead and injured exceeded half. The atmosphere was so heavy it was hard to breathe, and both Wuxie and the fat guy wore worried expressions, troubled by the situation.

At that moment, Van, the team leader, stepped up to remind everyone not to forget their mission and to keep looking ahead. The Denasians quickly gathered the clues they had collected during the day, along with a small sample of muscle tissue taken from the Night King to be analyzed, eagerly awaiting the results.

Wuxie felt a sense of urgency; in the past, he had overcome challenges alongside the fat guy and Little Brother, mainly using his intellect to devise plans. Now that Little Brother was absent, he felt lost and couldn’t figure out how to proceed. The fat guy, noticing Wuxie’s distress, tried his best to comfort him, saying that Zhang Qi Ling had chosen him for a reason, and that he just needed to find the right approach.

When the test results came back, both the Denasians and Van were stunned. The sample wasn’t an eyeball from the Night King but rather some strange creature, and it turned out to be useless. Van was shocked, while his assistant was furious, feeling that so many had died for nothing. He immediately ordered the research team to investigate further, insisting that there must have been a mistake.

Seeing the situation deteriorating, Van quietly approached Wuxie for a private chat. He explained that his role was simply to manage the project and ensure everyone’s safety. However, with so many casualties and no useful findings, and the Night King still pursuing them, he feared they might all perish. He urged Wuxie to consider giving up, but Wuxie was resolute; he was determined to eliminate the Night King. He remembered the scroll mentioning that when the Long Dying Day arrived, the Night King would appear, and they couldn’t let it harm anyone else.

Van wanted to retreat, taking the team back to safety to collect their pay, but Commander Hans was against it. He had lost an arm in battle and wouldn’t return empty-handed, seeing no benefit in giving up easily. To pressure Van, he even brandished a gun.

At that critical moment, the fat guy discovered a cave with a draft. He pulled Wuxie over to take a look, and indeed, it was an exit! The layout of the exit looked increasingly familiar to Wuxie, resembling a door he had seen over a decade ago at the Cloud Top Palace. Could this be the entrance to the Night King's lair? However, the exit was on a sheer cliff, and the Denasians couldn’t keep up. After discussing it, Wuxie and the fat guy decided to leave them behind and climb up themselves.

The Denasians realized they were being abandoned and angrily fired their weapons. Luckily, Zhang Hai Xing was agile and led Wuxie and the fat guy to dodge the bullets as they cautiously climbed the cliff. The journey was arduous; despite Zhang Hai Xing’s usual travels, he was exhausted by the end of the climb.

Fortunately, they persevered and finally saw the familiar door—it was tall and sturdy, exactly as Wuxie remembered. He took out the Celestial Staff and started waving it at the door, but it showed no reaction. The fat guy realized this wouldn’t work and thought back to the explosives he had "borrowed" from the Denasians; now was the perfect time to use them.

With a tremendous explosion, a thick, muddy liquid surged out from behind the door, knocking Wuxie, Zhang Hai Xing, and the fat guy off balance. Once the liquid settled, Wuxie helped the fat guy, who was covered in mud, back to his feet, relieved that the substance was non-corrosive; otherwise, the fat guy’s face would have been ruined.

Now, the palace door was blown open, but it was eerily quiet inside. Wuxie couldn’t help but wonder: why hadn’t the Night King emerged yet? After such a loud commotion, how could it not have heard them?
