Episode 3 recap: Zhang Qi Ling Solves the Mysterious Mechanism
In Episode 3, Wu Xie is eager to see the scroll recorded by De Ren. After the wise man tells him where the scroll is located, Wu Xie rushes to the room to search for it. Among a pile of scrolls, he finds some clues revealing that the Zhang family is a very mysterious clan known for their exceptional physical abilities and strict household rules. From a young age, children in the Zhang family must undergo a test called "Fang Ye," where the first to find a powerful weapon earns the most credit.
The Zhang family's mission has been passed down through generations: to punish evil and promote good. One time, a group of mountain bandits targeted the Zhang family members during their "Fang Ye" test, intending to rob and even kill them. However, the Zhang family members quickly turned the tables, defeating the bandits and seizing several firearms before continuing on their journey.
Zhang Qi Ling is one of those participating in the "Fang Ye" test. He is usually quiet and unassuming. One day, he discovers a treasure map from one of the bandits. His friends are excited and decide to follow the map to search for the treasure, but Zhang Qi Ling feels the location is too dangerous and is reluctant to go. Nonetheless, since everyone is eager for adventure, he reluctantly joins them.
They arrive at the location on the map—Zhang Jia Fort—and find that everything inside is hanging upside down, as if defying gravity. Even the skeletal remains are inverted, which adds to the eerie atmosphere. Just as they begin to look for a way out, they hear a noise and see a standing bronze horse, surrounded by skeletal remains that are two meters away, indicating it is a dangerous entity.
Zhang Qi Ling notices a mechanism on the bronze horse: if the ground trembles even slightly, it will shoot poisonous arrows. He warns his friends to be cautious and decides to handle the mechanism himself. He instructs his friends to hoist him with a rope and, using only his hands, he disassembles the mechanism, retrieving eighteen steel beads from inside.
From that moment on, everyone's perception of Zhang Qi Ling changes. Meanwhile, Wu Xie is engrossed in the scroll, but unfortunately, the most crucial part is missing, leaving only some patterns that look like a jumbled mess of lines. He quickly rushes to ask the wise man, who leisurely responds that when the time is right, he will naturally understand.
