Episode 13 recap: # Zhao Quan's Misunderstanding at the He Family

In this episode, Cui Xing Zhou, accompanied by Liu Mian Tang, enjoys a simple life among common people. He realizes that being cared for by others is sweeter than any delicacy. Pointing toward the south with hope, he tells Liu Mian Tang, "When the King of Huaiyang returns victorious, we’ll see his triumphant figure from there." Liu Mian Tang feels both happy and anxious, asking, "But what if he doesn’t win?" Cui Xing Zhou’s heart tightens, but he responds with a sense of acceptance, saying, "Then it might be a return to our hometown in another way, even if it’s wrapped in horsehide."

As night falls, Liu Mian Tang presents a wedding certificate cover she made by hand, asking Cui Xing Zhou to write another wedding certificate as a keepsake. Initially, he considers declining due to the late hour, but seeing that Liu Mian Tang has prepared everything, he gently pulls her into his arms and lovingly transcribes their future together. However, later that night, while Liu Mian Tang sleeps, Cui Xing Zhou quietly rises and leaves, burdened by greater responsibilities and worries.

The next morning, Liu Mian Tang awakens to find a letter on the table, believing it to be the wedding certificate. When she opens it, she discovers it is a divorce letter. Cui Xing Zhou wrote it out of concern for her safety, not wanting her to wait for him in vain. Upon reading it, Liu Mian Tang remains calm—she doesn’t cry or get angry. Instead, she calls for her maid and instructs her to pack, preparing to leave Qingzhou. The maid assumes Liu Mian Tang is returning to her family, but Liu Mian Tang’s true intention is to follow her husband to Qizhou.

Meanwhile, Sun Yun Er learns of Liu Mian Tang’s plans and plots to eliminate her at the Qizhou border. However, Cui Xing Zhou has already set up secret guards to protect Liu Mian Tang. The assassins fail in their mission and are captured by Liu Mian Tang and the guards, ultimately being tied up and discarded in a remote area. Liu Mian Tang, focused on Cui Xing Zhou, is not interested in fighting; she only wishes to reunite with him.

When Cui Xing Zhou discovers that Liu Mian Tang has followed him against all odds, he feels a mix of emotions and quickly dons his guard's attire to meet her. Upon seeing each other, Liu Mian Tang scolds him for imitating the King of Huaiyang, but her eyes reveal her concern and reluctance to part. Cui Xing Zhou repeatedly apologizes, feeling grateful as he sees Liu Mian Tang's sincerity and determination.

At the same time, Zhao Quan visits the He family seeking help with supplies. Unfortunately, He Zhen’s brother, misunderstanding Zhao Quan’s intentions, mistakenly believes he is pursuing He Zhen and absurdly tries to tie Zhao Quan to her bed to ruin his reputation. Fortunately, the He family patriarch returns just in time, recognizes Zhao Quan, and punishes his son for his foolishness. When Zhao Quan explains his true purpose, the patriarch misinterprets it as a marriage proposal, happily agreeing and promising to waive all fees. This misunderstanding unexpectedly fosters a friendly relationship between the two families, bringing joy to both Zhao Quan and the He family patriarch.
