Episode 2 recap: # Cui Xing Zhou Tests Liu Mian Tang

In Episode 2, Liu Mian Tang appears frail, but she has a strong spirit, almost like a boy. One day, while wandering around the market, she encounters a lewd man who, upon seeing her beauty, decides to take advantage of her. However, he underestimates Liu Mian Tang, who quickly uses her hairpin to stab him in the neck, hitting a major artery. Terrified, the man trembles and promises to leave her alone.

Word of this incident reaches Cui Xing Zhou, who doubts that Liu Mian Tang truly has amnesia. That evening, he returns home, planning to "question" his wife. Just as he opens the door, he is struck by the sight of Liu Mian Tang stepping out after a bath, looking as stunning as a painting.

Cui Xing Zhou has seen many beautiful women in the court, but none quite like Liu Mian Tang. Despite being a fake couple, he feels a stir of emotions. However, thinking of his rival Lu Wen, who is Liu Mian Tang's man, he steels himself.

Cui Xing Zhou intends to expose Liu Mian Tang's act of amnesia, but she preempts him by testing his knowledge of porcelain. He realizes he knows nothing about it and makes a few vague comments. This only convinces Liu Mian Tang that he is indeed pretending.

Being a seasoned player, Cui Xing Zhou decides to play along, claiming to be a carefree young master who relies on Liu Mian Tang to manage the family business. This leaves Liu Mian Tang with no grounds to challenge him.

Intrigued by Liu Mian Tang's intelligence and her suspicion of him, Cui Xing Zhou decides to stay the night, a first for him in his own home. Liu Mian Tang waits nervously by the bed; after three years of pretending to be a couple, they have never shared a bed. Cui Xing Zhou pretends to be calm, lying down properly while stealing glances at her. Surprisingly, Liu Mian Tang, although a bit anxious, behaves herself throughout the night.

Outside, people notice Liu Mian Tang busying herself and rarely see Cui Xing Zhou during the day, leading to gossip that she is his concubine. When this reaches Cui Xing Zhou's ears, he sees an opportunity to draw out Lu Wen. He decides to host a grand banquet to publicly declare Liu Mian Tang as his legitimate wife.

Liu Mian Tang feels both touched and worried about wasting Cui Xing Zhou's money. However, the maid quickly reassures her that this is Cui Xing Zhou's way of expressing his feelings. The banquet not only legitimizes Liu Mian Tang but also advances Cui Xing Zhou's plans. Now, he eagerly awaits Lu Wen's reaction.
