Episode 20 recap: Zhao Quan is Drugged by He Family's Young Master
In episode 20, Cui Xing Zhou returns home victorious from battle. Upon hearing that her cousin Cui Xing Zhou has come back to Qingzhou, Lian Ruolan drags her mother to congratulate him. Lian Ruolan's mother praises her daughter for being so concerned about him, but Cui Xing Zhou remains completely unfazed.
On the other hand, the Wang family's mother is more generous; she suggests putting the past behind them and asks Cui Xing Zhou to write a wedding invitation to finalize the marriage. Cui Xing Zhou shakes his head vigorously, adamantly refusing. He already has someone special in mind: Liu Mian Tang. During the campaign, Liu Mian Tang stood by him through thick and thin, and he has firmly decided that she is to be his wife.
Seeing that her approach isn’t working, Lian Ruolan's mother turns to Lian Ruolan's aunt, claiming that Cui Xing Zhou has someone else in his life—a girl who has been bullied by bandits. This gossip reaches Cui Xing Zhou, infuriating him. He warns them not to spread rumors or face his wrath. Lian Ruolan, standing nearby, is so startled that she stumbles over her words.
Meanwhile, Liu Mian Tang has already sent Zhao Quan back to Qingzhou, instructing him not to let He Zhen reveal the truth about the Wang family. Zhao Quan, who harbors feelings for He Zhen, seizes the opportunity to send her a bouquet of jasmine and arranges a meeting. When He Zhen arrives, she quickly understands Zhao Quan's intentions. He straightforwardly explains why it’s not the right time to disclose everything, mentioning that their feelings are deepening, and with Cui Xing Zhou wanting to marry Liu Mian Tang, it would only complicate matters.
Upon hearing this, He Zhen agrees and abandons her original plans. However, their conversation is overheard by a servant, and the rumor spreads rapidly. Eventually, He Zhen’s brother catches wind of it. Piecing together the information, he tells their father, who, upon hearing the phrase "marriage proposal," mistakenly believes Zhao Quan intends to marry He Zhen. Delighted at the prospect of connecting with the Zhen Nan Marquis's family, he envisions a bright future.
Meanwhile, Liu Mian Tang secretly brings her uncle back to Qingzhou, hiding him in her porcelain kiln. During a search by officials, they nearly get caught, but thanks to the help of a painter she hired, they manage to avoid disaster. Liu Mian Tang is grateful to the painter and feels a bit more at ease.
On Zhao Quan's side, he has yet to propose. He Zhen's brother, desperate, uses a trick by pretending to be their father to lure Zhao Quan in, hoping to push things forward. However, he drugs Zhao Quan's drink and locks the door before fleeing. Both Zhao Quan and He Zhen fall victim to the scheme, but Zhao Quan manages to tie them up with his belt and uses shards of porcelain to keep himself alert, preventing the situation from spiraling out of control.
The next day, He Zhen's father is furious upon learning what happened and scolds his son for his reckless behavior. Zhao Quan, being responsible, states that if He Zhen wants him to take responsibility, he will formally propose to her, ensuring all the traditional rites are followed. Thus, the situation takes an unexpected turn towards resolution.
