Episode 3 recap: # The Failed Assassination of Sun Yun Niang

In Episode 3, on a chilly night, the moonlight cast a gentle glow as a melancholic tune played softly. A maid quietly approached behind a screen and asked the musician if she was still thinking about Sister Liu. The musician sighed just as a servant rushed in with good news: they had finally located Liu Mian Tang!

Upon hearing this, Cui Xing Zhou wasted no time and began sending out invitations with Liu Mian Tang, eager to celebrate. Along the way, Liu Mian Tang insisted on stopping by the chess club to post notices. Cui Xing Zhou, fully aware of her intentions, had already placed his own people at the club and pretended to run into them, greeting them warmly.

Seeing so many people familiar with her husband made Liu Mian Tang realize he had indeed been playing chess there during the day, leading her to admire Cui Xing Zhou's social connections even more.

On the day of the banquet, Liu Mian Tang rose early to offer prayers at the temple and even managed to secure the first incense offering for Cui Xing Zhou, hoping for a smooth event. Meanwhile, Cui Xing Zhou was making grand preparations that caused quite a stir in the town. Naturally, Lu Wen got wind of it and sent numerous spies to keep tabs on Liu Mian Tang, fearing he would miss any developments.

Cui Xing Zhou relaxed at a teahouse, sipping tea but keeping his eyes on Liu Mian Tang's palanquin. He noticed a few unfamiliar faces following her, acting suspiciously. He chuckled to himself, thinking the trap had been set.

However, unexpectedly, the horses were spooked, and the palanquin fell apart. But Liu Mian Tang was resourceful; she quickly found a swift horse and raced straight to the banquet. Watching from above, Cui Xing Zhou admired her tenacity.

At the banquet, Cui Xing Zhou pretended to be drunk and left the management of both the front and back areas to Liu Mian Tang. This tactic worked well; he soon noticed some irregularities and confirmed that Lu Wen's people had infiltrated the event, though the true mastermind remained hidden.

In fact, among the assassins, there was no Lu Wen; it was his attendant, Sun Yun Niang. She had long harbored a secret crush on Lu Wen and was determined to eliminate Liu Mian Tang to help him forget her. However, she was taken aback when she discovered that Liu Mian Tang had lost her memory and didn’t remember who she was at all.

Now, Sun Yun Niang hesitated. After all, Liu Mian Tang was now Cui Xing Zhou's wife, and harming her carried too much risk. If Lu Wen found out, she would be in serious trouble.

After the banquet, Liu Mian Tang returned to her room and suddenly caught a whiff of a strange, intoxicating scent. Quick-witted as she was, she covered her nose and escaped through the window. Meanwhile, Cui Xing Zhou received a secret report and thought Lu Wen was coming. He rushed into the room, only to find a man who had previously harassed Liu Mian Tang at the market. Without hesitation, Liu Mian Tang threw a bucket of hot water at him, leaving both of them scalded.

Later that night, Liu Mian Tang personally applied medicine to Cui Xing Zhou's wounds. During their conversation, she mentioned the neighbor's talk about "warm rooms," which she interpreted as something more intimate. Thinking they had already shared a bed, she felt it was time to fulfill her duties as a wife.

However, Cui Xing Zhou repeatedly waved his hands, saying he preferred to wait until Liu Mian Tang was ready. Confused, Liu Mian Tang decided to ask Cui Xing Zhou's friend Zhao Quan the next day. Zhao Quan knew Cui Xing Zhou's intentions but couldn’t reveal them, so he concocted an excuse about Cui Xing Zhou having a minor health issue.

Upon hearing this, Liu Mian Tang grew anxious, genuinely believing there was something wrong with Cui Xing Zhou. She started researching medicinal dishes to help him recuperate. When Cui Xing Zhou learned about this from Zhao Quan, he was both amused and embarrassed, his face turning red.
