Episode 6 recap: # Liu Mian Tang and Cui Xing Zhou Resolve Their Differences

In Episode 6, there are some minor tensions between Liu Mian Tang and Cui Xing Zhou. The matron notices this and, concerned, prepares an extra special dinner in hopes of easing the tension between the two. As they eat, Liu Mian Tang criticizes the fried rice, saying it’s a bit too oily, and casually asks Cui Xing Zhou if he’s tried the crab roe fried rice she made herself.

Cui Xing Zhou replies, “No, I haven’t,” which unexpectedly causes Liu Mian Tang to frown. She puts down her utensils and goes back to her room.

Later that night, as Cui Xing Zhou prepares to rest, Liu Mian Tang sits up and seriously tells him that although she has amnesia, she is unwilling to marry him. Even though she is grateful for his care and is trying her best to be a good wife, she feels that the more she tries to be good to him, the wider the distance between them grows. Liu Mian Tang candidly expresses that if Cui Xing Zhou is willing, she would like a divorce; if not, she is okay with continuing their current life, as long as they can be more comfortable with each other.

That night, they each go back to their rooms.

Meanwhile, the leader of the merchant guild has been feeling unwell and is worried about the lack of response from the prince. He decides to visit with his daughter, He Zhen. Upon seeing the prince, He Zhen's emotions stir; he is none other than Cui Xing Zhou, her savior from years ago when she was kidnapped by pirates. Cui Xing Zhou was the first to rush to her aid, a memory she can’t forget.

To address the issues with transporting tribute, Cui Xing Zhou discusses with the merchant guild about securing more ships and suggests this as a condition for tax reductions. Although the guild leader is reluctant, he agrees.

When Liu Mian Tang hears about this, she comes up with a clever plan to buy land along the guild's necessary route, forcing them to compromise and accept her into the guild.

Upon learning that Liu Mian Tang is ill, Cui Xing Zhou hurriedly sends medicine, only to discover that she is faking it to infiltrate the guild and gather information. During her first guild meeting, Liu Mian Tang faces disdain as the guild’s wives bring gifts in an attempt to get close to her. The fabric and rare items they present leave her feeling amused and frustrated, as they mock her for claiming these common items are royal tributes, suggesting it’s a waste to use them for handkerchiefs.

Feeling confused, Liu Mian Tang does some research at home and realizes that these items are indeed quite valuable. She then rummages through her belongings and finds that Cui Xing Zhou has secretly provided her with many high-quality goods. Doubting his true identity, she decides to follow him secretly.

Cui Xing Zhou, informed by the matron, deliberately leads Liu Mian Tang to the chess academy, making her think he earns money by playing chess with the prince, thus providing a reasonable source for their household tributes.

When the misunderstanding is cleared up, Liu Mian Tang returns home and gives Cui Xing Zhou a good talk, advising him not to waste his chess skills and to pursue what he truly enjoys, assuring him that she will manage their expenses.

Cui Xing Zhou humbly accepts her advice, and at last, the rift between them is resolved. That night, Liu Mian Tang brings her bedding into Cui Xing Zhou’s study, and they sleep side by side again, as if returning to those sweet early days.
