Episode 8 recap: # Cui Xing Zhou Meets His Match

In the latest episode, Liu Mian Tang has come to see Cui Xing Zhou in a new light, recognizing many of his admirable qualities. Upon learning that Cui Xing Zhou has some unspoken troubles, she decides to make a change in herself. After they reconcile, Liu Mian Tang prepares a set of sexy lingerie. With her fair skin and the lustrous fabric, she looks stunning.

Summoning her courage, she reveals her heartfelt gesture to Cui Xing Zhou. Although he is deeply moved, he fights his impulses and leaves the room.

Meanwhile, Cui Xing Zhou discovers that his rival, Zi Yu, might be hiding in Qingzhou and has connections with Shi Yi Kuan, a favored courtier of the Empress. Fueled by a burning desire for revenge, he remains outwardly calm. He considers that having Liu Mian Tang by his side might help draw out Zi Yu. Therefore, he suggests taking Liu Mian Tang on a trip to Qingzhou, planning to get closer to Shi Yi Kuan while also probing Zi Yu's movements.

Liu Mian Tang is completely unaware of Cui Xing Zhou's plans, focusing instead on her pottery business. To expand her market, she carefully selects several exquisite pieces to take along. Upon arriving in Qingzhou, Cui Xing Zhou deliberately lets Liu Mian Tang go ahead while he observes from the shadows.

As expected, Liu Mian Tang quickly attracts unwanted attention. In a chess shop, she falls in love with a beautiful chessboard but reluctantly gives up on it due to its high price and prior reservation. Unbeknownst to her, this was all orchestrated by Zi Yu, who secretly canceled the reservation to regain her attention.

Cui Xing Zhou learns through his informants that Zi Yu is indeed targeting Liu Mian Tang. To accelerate this "cat-and-mouse game," he personally takes Liu Mian Tang shopping, during which he catches a glimpse of Zi Yu. The two finally confront each other, with Zi Yu inviting Cui Xing Zhou to a game of chess. Upon seeing Zi Yu, Liu Mian Tang feels an inexplicable sense of familiarity, but a headache prevents her from delving deeper into her feelings.

After the chess match, Cui Xing Zhou wins, but he is worried about Liu Mian Tang's condition. Back at their lodging, he asks the matron to probe Liu Mian Tang's memory. The matron fabricates a story about Zi Yu being an old acquaintance of Liu Mian Tang. Believing the lie, Liu Mian Tang even suggests that if Cui Xing Zhou minds her past, she would consider leaving him.

Cui Xing Zhou quickly reassures her, explaining that Zi Yu's interest was one-sided and there was nothing inappropriate between them. This calms Liu Mian Tang's worries.

The trip to Qingzhou not only deepens Liu Mian Tang and Cui Xing Zhou's relationship but also subtly uncovers a buried memory. As for the entanglement between Liu Mian Tang and Zi Yu, it may gradually come to light over time, but for now, she prefers to trust Cui Xing Zhou and envision a future together. Meanwhile, Cui Xing Zhou quietly plans how to resolve his old grievances with Zi Yu and protect the peaceful life he shares with Liu Mian Tang.
