Episode 16 recap: Hu Yue Confronts Yang Song Bai After Drinking
In Episode 16, Hu Qiu Min discovers a new portable cassette player on the table as she prepares for school. She initially assumes it was bought by Hu Yue, but Hu Yue denies it. Hu Qiu Min then suspects that Yang Song Bai might be the one who purchased it. Hu Yue disagrees, saying that Yang Song Bai wouldn’t spend that much money on her.
Meanwhile, Yuan Shan Qing is getting ready for school and plans to drop off Xiao Zi at Grandma Chen’s house. However, Jia Dai Yu insists that they will take care of Xiao Zi, considering it a payment for Yuan Shan Qing’s duty. Qiang Xiao Wa is planning to invite everyone over for dinner that night and has secretly bought a lot of seafood.
Hu Yue tells Cheng Miao Miao and Li Si about her suspicion that Yang Song Bai bought the cassette player. During gym class, Yuan Shan Qing keeps accidentally hitting Luo Zheng with the ball, but surprisingly, Luo Zheng doesn't get angry.
After class, Qiang Xiao Wa invites everyone to her home for dinner. Cheng Miao Miao mentions that Jia Bao Shan is taking everyone out for barbecue that night, which makes Qiang Xiao Wa feel a bit down. However, Cheng Miao Miao quickly includes her in the barbecue plans.
Jia Dai Yu, Niu Ling Ling, and Hu Yue go to a dance hall, but Hu Yue looks troubled and deep in thought. She feels that Yang Song Bai buying a cassette player for Hu Qiu Min is inappropriate. Although Yang Song Bai took good care of her during her recent surgery, which Hu Yue appreciated, she worries things might change now that she has recovered.
Meanwhile, Jia Bao Shan, having had too much to drink, starts bragging and sharing life lessons with the kids. Jia Dai Yu and Niu Ling Ling think that Hu Yue is placing too much importance on Yang Song Bai, arguing that as she manages the household, he has no right to criticize her.
Hu Yue, however, feels that if life continues to be difficult, going through another divorce would be embarrassing. Jia Bao Shan starts talking about heartbreak, and Cheng Miao Miao and Li Si listen intently. At the dance hall, the three women drink heavily and have a great time. When Hu Yue returns home, she gets a bit rowdy from drinking. Hu Qiu Min hears the noise and quietly peeks out, chuckling at the sight of Hu Yue sprawled on the floor.
Cheng Miao Miao, Cheng Ya Ya, and Cheng Peng Fei found themselves dealing with the two drunks, Jia Dai Yu and Jia Bao Shan, leaving them overwhelmed. Niu Ling Ling was also acting wild with Li Da Hai, making it a long night for the three men.
Niu Ling Ling called Li Si over to join her for a drink, feeling quite happy with her good husband and handsome son. Meanwhile, Jia Dai Yu and Jia Bao Shan called their mother early in the morning to complain about each other. Hu Yue, waking up from a night of heavy drinking, received encouragement from Hu Qiu Min and was gifted lipstick from her brother.
Feeling motivated, Hu Yue decided not to make breakfast for Yang Song Bai. Cheng Miao Miao’s English grades were so poor that Han Shu wanted to call her parents. Despite Cheng Miao Miao's desperate pleas, she had no choice but to seek help from Jia Bao Shan, who boldly declared she would go to the school and teach the teacher a lesson.
The next morning, Cheng Miao Miao woke Jia Bao Shan to help her stand up for herself at school. Jia Bao Shan arrived at the office dressed sharply but caught Xiao Fang sneaking dumplings. She gave Xiao Fang a righteous lecture, only to turn around and see the real teacher, Han Shu, which made her forget all about standing up for anyone.
On the weekend, Cheng Ya Ya celebrated her birthday and invited everyone to go roller skating. Cheng Miao Miao strutted into the office, but Jia Bao Shan unexpectedly turned against her and sided with Han Shu to scold her. Furious, Cheng Miao Miao ended up throwing Jia Bao Shan out of the school gate.
