Episode 2 recap: Cheng Miao Miao Decides to Go to Hong Kong
In Episode 2, we learn how Jia Dai Yu and Cheng Peng Fei met, thanks to the matchmaking efforts of their elders. Cheng Peng Fei is a standout medic in the Nanjing Military Region, with excellent credentials. When they first met, Jia Dai Yu was straightforward, mentioning her past romantic entanglements and feeling that such a great guy like Cheng Peng Fei didn’t need to waste his time on her.
However, Cheng Peng Fei was smitten from the start. They shared an unspoken connection that naturally brought them together, and eventually, they had two kids.
One day, Jia Dai Yu stumbled upon an article about Hong Kong in the newspaper, and her excitement grew. She felt compelled to visit Hong Kong, no matter what.
Meanwhile, Cheng Miao Miao and Cheng Ya Ya, Jia Dai Yu's two younger sisters, were having a fierce "meat dispute" over dinner. Cheng Miao Miao teased Cheng Ya Ya, who retaliated by brandishing her report card as a weapon, leaving Cheng Miao Miao deflated.
They both dreamed of performing at the Qingdao Grand Theater, but unfortunately, they weren’t selected. Frustrated, Cheng Miao Miao confronted Xiao Wan for answers, only to find out they were caught cheating on the exam and were waiting for a reprimand. Li Si and Hu Qiu Min, who were nearby, echoed their frustration, shouting, “What’s so great about Qingdao? We should go to Hong Kong!” Cheng Miao Miao’s eyes lit up at the idea of going to Hong Kong, where she envisioned a life of glamour in the oil fields.
She rallied Cheng Ya Ya, along with Li Si and Hu Qiu Min, and they decided to embark on a “special operation” to Hong Kong. However, Cheng Ya Ya flatly refused, having her own agenda.
Without Cheng Ya Ya, the remaining three felt deflated, lacking motivation even while walking down the street.
In a fit of frustration, Cheng Miao Miao refused to eat. Eventually, Cheng Ya Ya’s soft heart led her to bring a bowl of noodles to coax her sister, agreeing to help, but they quickly realized that raising money for the trip would be a challenge. The sisters decided to tackle the most crucial first step: obtaining their household registration book.
Seeing them so dedicated, even Jia Dai Yu was taken aback when she got home from work to find them studying intently. Jia Dai Yu herself was upset about not being selected for the program, and Cheng Miao Miao encouraged her to join in a dance performance, all in an effort to sneak the household registration book.
Li Si, on the other hand, had no trouble stealing the household registration book when no one was home. Hu Qiu Min also managed to sneak hers out and casually mentioned the Hong Kong plan to her brother Hu Yue, adding that they’d stop by Shenzhen. Li Si took it a step further by selling their dad's old car, returning with a thick wad of cash and pretending it was just a cleanup of junk at home.
While Jia Dai Yu and Cheng Da Peng were busy with rehearsals, Cheng Miao Miao and Cheng Ya Ya discreetly left a note and packed their bags for their journey to Hong Kong. On the way, Li Si urgently needed to use the restroom and ended up disturbing a beehive, leading to a series of amusing mishaps.
Despite the ups and downs, their dream of going to Hong Kong grew stronger by the day.
