Episode 5 recap: The New Student Qiang Xiao Wa Causes a Stir
Living on a fishing boat by the seaside, Qiang Xiao Wa is dependent on his grandfather, who dreams of a bright future for him through education. Today marks Qiang Xiao Wa's first day of high school. After some persuasion from his grandfather, who repeatedly warns him to stay out of trouble, he reluctantly heads to school.
On the first day, Cheng Miao Miao is frantically searching for her summer homework, while Cheng Peng Fei has already returned with breakfast.
In Class 2 of the second year, Li Si bursts into the classroom with juicy gossip, claiming their homeroom teacher resembles the actress Qiu Shuzhen, though his classmates remain skeptical. Amid the playful chaos, Cheng Miao Miao spots a familiar yet unfamiliar figure. Cheng Ya Ya has moved up from middle school, and a bewildered girl enters the classroom, prompting complaints from the others, clearly dissatisfied with her presence.
Xiao Wan introduces their new homeroom teacher, Gao Fei Yang, an attractive man who captures the attention of all the girls. He also brings along a new student, Qiang Xiao Wa, who keeps his head down and stays silent, so Gao Fei Yang seats him next to Li Si.
Li Si's crush, Han Shu, is actually Cheng Ya Ya's homeroom teacher, but the class shows little respect for her. They demand that Yuan Shan Qing leave, as she is the daughter of a wanted criminal. When Xiao Wan strides into the classroom with authority, Yuan Shan Qing's desk mate is so uncomfortable that they refuse to sit next to her. Cheng Ya Ya steps up to defend her.
Everyone is curious about Qiang Xiao Wa, clearly a village boy, and wonders why the school accepted him. Li Si, ever the chatterbox, tries to engage him, but Qiang Xiao Wa ignores him. Han Shu approaches Gao Fei Yang to express her concerns about Yuan Shan Qing's situation.
Gao Fei Yang responds that whether Yuan Shan Qing can stay in school depends on how her homeroom teacher handles it. Meanwhile, Cheng Miao Miao warmly greets Qiang Xiao Wa, reminding him of the time he gave them a ride on his tricycle, but he still doesn't respond.
Yuan Yong's actions have caused trouble for his daughter, Yuan Shan Qing, and everyone advises Cheng Ya Ya not to stick up for her, but she remains unconcerned. As soon as the bell rings, Yuan Shan Qing bolts out of the classroom, anxious about what might happen next.
Li Si, wanting to thank Qiang Xiao Wa, offers him ten yuan, but Qiang Xiao Wa still ignores him. When Jia Dai Yu hears that Cheng Ya Ya and Yuan Yong's child are now classmates, she immediately rushes to find a teacher, as that’s Yuan Yong’s kid.
Cheng Peng Fei believes that adult mistakes shouldn't affect children, and surprisingly, Cheng Ya Ya and Jia Dai Yu find themselves aligned in this view. Later, Cheng Miao Miao approaches Cheng Ya Ya, but Cheng Ya Ya is unhappy with her attitude and outright tells her to leave.
Yuan Yong has swindled a lot of money from the oil field, and Jia Dai Yu has also been scammed, causing her to worry greatly about Cheng Ya Ya. The next day, Yuan Shan Qing arrives late to class. Qiang Xiao Wa isn't wearing a uniform and has long hair, which catches Xiao Wan's attention; he insists that Qiang Xiao Wa needs to get a haircut and buy a uniform, and his Mandarin is also an issue.
Due to Yuan Yong's troubles, Luo Zheng's grandmother has jumped into the river, leading some to hope that Yuan Shan Qing won’t come to class anymore. However, Yuan Shan Qing refuses, stating that Yuan Yong’s problems have nothing to do with him. Cheng Miao Miao accidentally overhears a conversation between Gao Fei Yang and Qiang Xiao Wa and offers to help him integrate and learn Mandarin.
Yuan Shan Qing’s situation gives Han Shu a headache, but Cheng Ya Ya proactively approaches her, advising her to take care of herself. Cheng Ya Ya brings an ice pop to apologize to Cheng Miao Miao. Yuan Shan Qing insists on attending class again today, and when Luo Zheng sees her, he can't contain his anger and flips her desk over, but a few people manage to stop him. Cheng Ya Ya quickly sets the desk back upright, while Luo Zheng remains indignant about their attitudes.
Li Si and Cheng Miao Miao try to help Qiang Xiao Wa, but he dismisses them. Li Si, frustrated, mutters a few angry remarks, not realizing that one of them strikes a nerve with Qiang Xiao Wa, who suddenly retaliates. They all grew up together in the oil base and know each other well, but they’ve never had classmates transfer in. With Qiang Xiao Wa and Yuan Shan Qing's sudden arrival, none of them anticipated how profoundly these two would impact their long lives.
